The Remington 1875 revolver is an improved version of the percussion Remington 1858 New Army, and was manufactured by Remington & Sons from 1875 to 1889. The Remington 1875 features a bored through cylinder to facilitate the usage of metallic cartridges, and like the 1858 can detach its cylinder at will. It was made as a competitor to the Colt Single Action Army and saw some success in that regard due to its sturdy quality.
The Remington 1890 is a variant of the 1875 made to resemble the Colt SAA by cutting off its triangular ejector rod support piece. It was manufactured from 1890 to 1896 and was considered a commercial failure. It was preceded by the Remington 1888, a transitional phase model.
