This Spanish Pistol, known overseas as the Star Modelo B, appears in many Hollywood movies as a substitute for the Govt. Model 1911, since it fired the hotter and more reliable 9mm blanks. Also in the older days of cinema, armorers had trouble getting .45 ACP blanks to cycle in pistols, so 9mm was substituted whenever possible. With newer powders and blank conversion techniques, most problems with the .45 ACP pistols have been solved.

 +
 +
The Star Model S was a series of compact pistols chambered in .380 or .32 ACP. Technically this is a scaled down version of full size Model B. Model S was used by the Spanish police and armed forces, notably the Spanish Foreign Legion and the Air Forces. Marine pilots retained Model S in service till the early 1990s. During the WWII, Model S was used by Luftwaffe aircrews.
 +
 +
Base version S (in .380) was intoduced in 1940. In 1944, it was supplemented with a .32 SI model. Models SS and SIS with improved safety were introduced in 1957. S Super, SI Super and SM Super, created as a part of "Super" version in all Star pistol series, were introduced in 1948 and manufactured alongside the basic model.

 +
The Star Model BKS was the first of Star's compact models, and the precursor to the BM and BKM. It can be differentiated by its slightly larger size, the shape of the scallop at the front of the slide and by its vertical slide serrations. In the US this pistol was also sold as the Starlite in reference to its lightweight alloy frame, a relative novelty at the time.

This Spanish Pistol, known overseas as the Star Modelo B, appears in many Hollywood movies as a substitute for the 1911 / 'Government Model' pistols, since it fired the hotter and more reliable 9mm blanks; In the older days of cinema, armorers had trouble getting .45 ACP blanks to cycle in pistols, so 9mm was substituted whenever possible. With newer powders and blank conversion techniques, most problems with the .45 ACP pistols have been solved.

During the WWII, Model S was used by Luftwaffe aircrews.

Base version S (in .380) was intoduced in 1940. In 1944, it was supplemented with a .32 SI model. Models SS and SIS with improved safety were introduced in 1957.
