Face of the Frog is a 1959 Danish-German movie directed by Harald Reinl. His face is hidden under a dark cover, and only two huge, terrifying eyes stick out. Wrapped in a wide hooded cloak, "The Frog in the Mask" spreads fear and terror on London's streets together with his sinister gang of criminals. Inspector Elk of Scotland Yard is faced with a seemingly unsolvable mystery. In the scenes of the horror there are almost no traces; only on the wrists of the murdered people, black signs of the deadly frog gang are found. Only when Richard Gordon, the nephew of the Scotland Yard boss, gets involved in the investigation together with his butler James, does a hot lead to an old harbor tavern.
More than 3.2 million people saw the film in theaters. Its success laid the foundation for the German adaptation series film series, which ran until 1972, as well as for numerous other crime films of a similar style.
