Revolvers

Colt Python

Sheriffs Deputy Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) carries a six-inch barreled Colt Python .357 Magnum revolver as his duty sidearm in the series. He is seen using the revolver prominently in the series premiere "Days Gone Bye" (S1E01). Of note is that when Grimes fires the gun in a very tight, enclosed space (in this case, inside a tank), it actually severely disorients him and hurts his hearing, unlike most movies or shows that have people firing guns indoors or in other enclosed spaces without being fazed. Rick loads his Colt Python with rounds given by Shane Walsh (Jon Bernthal) in "Tell It to the Frogs" (S1E03). Rick holds his Colt Python on Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) in "Vatos" (S1E04). Grimes notably uses the revolver twice in Season 1, wielding it in "Wildfire" (S1E05) and once again fires it as the group flee the CDC in Season 1's finale "TS-19" (S1E06).

In the series premiere "Days Gone Bye" (S1E01), a flashback shows Rick wielding his Python as he scolds the other deputies on wanting to get on a reality cop show. Note Shane in the background with his Mossberg 590.

In the series premiere "Days Gone Bye" (S1E01), Rick puts the Python to the head of the undead soldier. When Grimes fires the gun in a very tight, enclosed space (in this case, inside a tank), it actually severely disorients him and hurts his hearing, unlike most movies or shows that have people firing guns indoors or in other enclosed spaces without being fazed. The undead soldier is portrayed by actor Sam Witwer (whose story would have been told in Frank Darabont's original script for the Season 2 premiere).

Smith & Wesson Model 586

Just before the group leaves for the CDC Headquarters in "Wildfire" (S1E05), Rick (Andrew Lincoln) gives Morales (Juan Gabriel Pareja) what appears to be a Smith & Wesson Model 586 in .357 Magnum from the bag of guns when Morales and his family decide to leave the group to find the rest of their kin in Birmingham. Shane is heard saying ".357?" as well when Rick is getting it out of the bag.

Just before the group leaves for the CDC Headquarters in "Wildfire" (S1E05), Rick (Andrew Lincoln) gives Morales (Juan Gabriel Pareja) what appears to be a Smith & Wesson Model 586 in .357 Magnum.

Smith & Wesson Model 10

In "Vatos" (S1E04), a snub nose Smith & Wesson Model 10 or two can be seen in the hands of the Vatos during the standoff in Atlanta, specifically Felipe (Noel Gugliemi). In "Wildfire" (S1E05), Rick (Andrew Lincoln) offers a Model 10 from the bag of guns to Jim who has been bitten to end himself, he declines.

In "Vatos" (S1E04), what appears to be a Smith & Wesson Model 15 is seen in the hands of one of Guillermo's right hand men, Jorge (James Gonzaba) during the standoff.

In "Vatos" (S1E04), a Smith & Wesson Model 15 can possibly be seen in the hands of the gang member on the left.

Taurus Model 85 (Nickel)

What appears to be a nickel Taurus Model 85 is used by Morgan Jones (Lennie James) in the series premiere "Days Gone Bye" (S1E01). It has a 5-shot cylinder but is not of the S&W J-frame series. The unique curved ejector shroud on a Taurus Model 85 is barely noticeable in the photos below. For some more discussion about this, please visit the TV Series talk page.

Pistols

Glock 17

Sheriffs Deputy Shane Walsh (Jon Bernthal), Deputies of the King County Sheriff's Department and Linden County Sheriff's Department carry the Glock 17 as their duty sidearms in the series first episode "Days Gone Bye" (S1E01). One of the deputies was told by Grimes to have a round chambered (which, when he does check, we can see the gun is actually empty) and also (incorrectly) to make sure the safety was off. A Glock 17 is also taken by Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) from Rick's gun bag to confront the Vatos in in "Vatos" (S1E04), however it changes into a CZ-75 during the confrontation. Shane is seen carrying his duty sidearm Glock 17 at the end of "Vatos" (S1E04). In Season 1's finale "TS-19" (S1E06), Shane is seen firing his Glock 17 pistol when they are fleeing the CDC headquarters when he takes a shot on a zombie as they make a break for the vehicles. It can also be seen in Shane's hands in the opening flashback of the same episode in the hospital.

A Generation 3 Glock 17 - 9x19mm Parabellum

A deputy Leon Basset (Linds Edwards) told by Grimes to have a round chambered and to make sure the safety was off in the series premiere "Days Gone Bye" (S1E01). In reality, the Glock has no external safety switch and Leon indexes his thumb on the slide release.

Beretta 92FS

Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) takes a Beretta 92FS (standing in for a U.S. Military-issue M9) from a dead soldier (Sam Witwer) inside a tank in the end of the series premiere "Days Gone Bye" (S1E01). In "Guts" (S1E02), Rick identifies on the radio to Glenn (Steven Yeun) that the pistol he has available is a Beretta with "one clip, 15 rounds", to which the latter replies back to ‘make them count’. Rick fires Beretta at several walkers until it runs dry then stores it in Glenn's backpack. In Season 1's finale "TS-19" (S1E06), a flashback shows a Beretta wielded by a U.S. soldier when he shoots the possibly infected people in the head after being executed by automatic fire at the hospital. Upon closer inspection, this appears to be a Non Gun replica.

Beretta 92F Non Gun

A soldier uses a flashpaper Beretta on the bodies in a flashback seen in Season 1's finale "TS-19" (S1E06). The use of the Non Gun was probably done due to the enclosed space that the weapon was used in as well as for the safety of the extras on the floor, since the gun fires several times near them. Also, its appearance is relatively brief, so there probably wasn't a need for a real blank firearm.

Browning Hi-Power

Merle Dixon (Michael Rooker) carries a chrome Browning Hi-Power pistol and uses it to threaten fellow group members in "Guts" (S1E02). The weapon is taken forcefully, then used by Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) as he and Glenn make their way to the truck. In Season 1's finale "TS-19" (S1E06), Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) is seen Mexican carrying his brother's chrome Browning Hi-Power, replacing the CZ-75 from earlier episodes.

Colt M1911A1

In the flashback seen at the beginning of the series premiere "Days Gone Bye" (S1E01), one of the suspects from the police chase (Brent Bernhard) uses a M1911A1 to wound Rick before being killed himself by Shane. An M1911A1 pistol is seen in the hands of a dead U.S. soldier at a sandbag guard post at the CDC building near the ending of “Wildfire” (S1E05).

Colt M1911A1 - .45 ACP

In the series premiere "Days Gone Bye" (S1E01), a thug (Brent Bernhard) fires the Colt M1911A1 at Rick during a flashback.

A dead U.S. soldier on a sandbag position is seen still gripping a M1911A1 pistol at the CDC building near the end of "Wildfire" (S1E05). Trivia note: The building seen here is actually the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center. The collection of buildings that are the actual Centers for Disease Control don't lend themselves to film crews running around for obvious reasons.

CZ 75 "Pre-B"

Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) is seen with a CZ 75 "Pre-B" during the standoff in "Vatos" (S1E04). The handgun in the front of his waistband is definitely not the Glock he loaded earlier on which is in the back of his waistband at the small of his back. Unlike the Glock, this pistol also has an external hammer. It seems to also have a different rear sight than the SIG featured in the earlier loading scene.

CZ 75 "Pre-B" - 9x19mm

Daryl has the pistol tucked in his waistband in "Vatos" (S1E04).

On the left, the pistol can be seen in Daryl's waistband in "Vatos" (S1E04). Right here is much more clear that it's a "Pre-B" CZ 75 due to the clear design.

SIG-Sauer P226

In "Vatos" (S1E04), Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) handles a black SIG-Sauer P226 as he, Daryl, and T-Dog load up from the bag of guns as they prepare to confront the Vatos. It appears he may even have it tucked in the back of his belt during the confrontation later at the small of his back in addition to the Colt Python in his holster.

At the beginning of the series premiere "Days Gone Bye" (S1E01), one of the suspects from the police chase (Tommie Mack Turvey) uses what appears to be a two-tone SIG-Sauer P228.

Smith & Wesson 3913 "Ladysmith"

Andrea (Laurie Holden) is first seen with a Smith & Wesson 3913 "Ladysmith" in "Guts" (S1E02). She later in the episode hands the pistol to Glenn (Steven Yeun) for his own protection when he and Rick make their way to the escape van, he does not fire it in the escape though. Andrea uses it in "Wildfire" (S1E05) when making a fateful decision regarding her sister Amy.

Smith & Wesson 3913 "Ladysmith" - 9x19mm

Shotguns

Mossberg 590

In the series premiere "Days Gone Bye" (S1E01), a Mossberg 590 is first seen during a flashback being used by Rick's partner, Shane Walsh (Jon Bernthal) during the shootout with the suspects in the overturned vehicle just before Rick is wounded in the line of duty. The shotgun is fitted with an extended magazine tube, heat-shield, collapsible KNOXX SpecOps NRS stock with pistol grip. It appears again later in Shane's possession at the survivor camp and can notably be seen being used by Shane on the attacking walkers at the camp in "Vatos" (S1E04). In "Wildfire" (S1E05), Shane is seen with the shotgun when he and Rick patrol the woods. Shane also loses his cool when trapped in the CDC Headquarters in the Season 1 finale "TS-19" (S1E06) and uses it to blow up some computer monitors before being disarmed by Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Shane later uses it in an attempt to bust the glass to escape the CDC which fails. Once outside, Shane uses the Mossberg to blast down walkers as the group runs to the vehicles.

Mossberg 500 Persuader

The Mossberg 500 Persuader shotgun with extended mag tube is first seen used by law enforcement officers of the Linden County Sheriff's Department in a flashback chasing suspects in a car in the series premiere "Days Gone Bye" (S1E01). Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) has two Mossberg shotguns stashed in his bag of guns he acquired from the police station before he dropped it in the series premiere. Rick can be first seen using one of the Mossberg 500s in "Vatos" (S1E04) where he wields this shotgun in the standoff with the Vatos gang and ends up giving it to their leader, Guillermo (Neil Brown Jr.) after the Vatos turn out to be doing a good thing.

Mossberg 590 "Compact Cruiser"

In the series premiere "Days Gone Bye" (S1E01), a flashback shows one of the suspects (Chick Bernhardt) that emerged from the wrecked car following a police chase using a Mossberg 590 Compact Cruiser fitted with a door-breaching muzzle-brake.

Remington 870 Wingmaster

In the series premiere "Days Gone Bye" (S1E01), a Remington 870 Wingmaster shotgun is briefly seen in the house Rick stops at. In the same episode, Rick also has one stashed in his bag of guns he got from the police station locker, the shotgun sports a walnut stock, a barrel without the raised barrel vent rib and possibly a shorter 20" Barrel. In "Vatos" (S1E04), a Remington 870 Wingmaster ends up with Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) during the "switch" with the Vatos. Daryl continues to carry it along with his crossbow in "Wildfire" (S1E05) when the group arrives at the CDC and still has it in the opening of the Season 1's finale "TS-19" (S1E06).

Remington 870 Police Magnum

In "Vatos" (S1E04), T-Dog (IronE Singleton) takes a Remington 870 Police Magnum with a synthetic stock from Rick's bag of guns and uses it during the standoff as well as during the walker's siege on the survivor camp. He appears to be carrying it still as the group make their way to the CDC in "Wildfire" (S1E05).

Harrington & Richardson Pardner Pump Compact

For the remainder of "Vatos" (S1E04), Rick (Andrew Lincoln) appears to be using a Harrington & Richardson Pardner Pump Compact with a wood stock to replace the Mossberg he gave to Guillermo. He fires it at walkers in the camp during the attack and then carries it throughout "Wildfire" (S1E05) and upon arriving at the CDC in Season 1's finale "TS-19" (S1E06).

Harrington & Richardson Pardner Pump Protector

Glenn (Steven Yeun) is seen using what appears to be a Harrington & Richardson Pardner Pump Protector fitted with a ribbed barrel after taking it from Rick's gunbag in "Vatos" (S1E04). He uses it during the subsequent episodes, most notably during the siege on the camp by the walkers. In "Wildfire" (S1E05), he still has it as the group makes their way to the CDC Headquarters.

Rifles

Winchester Model 70

In "Guts" (S1E02), Merle Dixon (Michael Rooker) is seen firing a Winchester Model 70 bolt-action rifle atop a building at walkers and also uses the rifle to rifle-butt T-Dog in a disagreement before Rick intervenes. An unscoped Winchester also appears to be held by one of the Vatos in "Vatos" (S1E04). Dale fires a scoped Winchester Model 70 at the walkers during the camp attack and carries it to the CDC. The rifle is only seen for a brief few seconds when Rick and the others are allowed into their compound.

TRIVIA: When Michael Rooker was filming the rooftop scene in Atlanta during production, surrounding people below in the streets called the police because they believed he was a genuine crazed gunman with a sniper rifle shooting off the roof of a building. Unaware of filming in progress, a SWAT team showed up in full combat mode ready to respond.

Pre-1964 Winchester Model 70 - .30-06

Dale (Jeffrey DeMunn) carries what appears to be a Remington 700 with a scope and Varmint Laminated Stock, he is seen with it in every episode usually slung over his back as he keeps watch over camp since "Guts" (S1E02). In Season 1's finale "TS-19" (S1E06), it appears that T-Dog (IronE Singleton) is carrying the rifle as the group flees the CDC and even fires it at least once.

Remington 700 with Varmint Laminated Stock - .308 Winchester

Remington 700 BDL

In the series premiere "Days Gone Bye" (S1E01), a scoped Remington 700 BDL is given to Morgan Jones (Lennie James) by Rick Grimes from the sheriff's station arsenal. Morgan uses it to brush up on his marksmanship skills from the second story window of his hideout. To note when he is setting up to kill his infected wife (yet he is unable to bring himself to do so), he takes an I.D. Photo and sets it up like a hide sight giving us a possibility of being a sniper in the past.

A Ruger 10/22 is seen in the series premiere "Days Gone Bye" (S1E01) in the sheriff's station arsenal next to Rick Grimes, however it is not taken possibly because there was no ammunition or magazines left for the rifle.

Browning Automatic Rifle Safari

A scoped Browning Automatic Rifle Safari is one of the rifles retrieved in Rick's bag of guns. In "Vatos" (S1E04), the rifle is briefly seen being used by T-Dog (IronE Singleton) during the standoff with the gangsters in Atlanta.

Several M4A1 assault rifles can be seen abandoned with several dead U.S. soldiers and other military personnel around the CDC Headquarters in "Wildfire" (S1E05). In a flashback, U.S. Army soldiers appear to be armed with Colt M4A1s fitted with Aimpoint CompM2 CCO scopes in the opening of the Season 1's finale "TS-19" (S1E06) when Shane witnesses the execution of possibly infected people inside the hospital. Some M4A1s in the hands of some U.S. soldiers are actually M4A1/M16 Non Guns with Trijicon ACOG scopes attached on top of the carrying handle rear sight, most notably seen when one soldier (dressed in U.S. 3 color desert uniform) is grabbed by a walker and wildly empties his magazine unintentionally into his fellow soldiers. An M4A1 is also carried by Dr. Edwin Jenner (Noah Emmerich) in the same episode when he first confronts the group of survivors, eventually allowing them safety inside. Jenner tells the group there were plenty of M4A1 carbines laying around that he taught himself how to use one.

In the series premiere "Days Gone Bye" (S1E01), a mockup of a Browning M2HB is seen mounted atop a British Chieftain tank (presumably standing in for an M1 Abrams) in which Grimes takes refuge. Similar M2HBs mockups are also seen on Bell UH-1 "Huey" helicopters and on a IAV Stryker in the episode. What appears to be an authentic M2HB is seen in the foreground as Rick passes the tank on horseback.

In "Wildfire" (S1E05), a DShK heavy machine gun is seen in a machine gun nest outside the CDC in Atlanta. It is likely a mocked-up Browning M2. Trivia Note: The DShK is a Soviet/Russian-made heavy machine gun and it's highly unlikely that it could be found in the possession of American troops, especially inside the borders of the USA!

In "Wildfire" (S1E05), a DShK heavy machine gun is seen in a machine gun next outside the CDC in Atlanta. Of also note is an M4A1 with SureFire M500-series WeaponLight laying on the sandbags beneath the leg of a corpse and the dead soldier with the M1911A1 on the far right.

M67 Hand Grenade (M69 Training version)

In "Guts" (S1E02), Rick (Andrew Lincoln) takes what appears to be an M67 Hand Grenade from a tank and stores it in his pocket. In reality, the grenade is actually an M69, the inert training version of the live M67 grenade, noted in some shots with a bit of the blue paint showing through the over painted OD green color. Carol later gives Rick the grenade to use in Season 1's finale "TS-19" (S1E06).

Rick's Bag of Guns

In the series premiere "Days Gone Bye" (S1E01), Rick (Andrew Lincoln) is seen ransacking the sheriff's station armory and throughout the first season is seen with a duffle bag of guns. Later in the episode, he is seen having to abandon this bag when attacked by swarm of walkers. For the majority of the time in the premiere episode, the shotguns sticking out of the bag appear to be foam props. Later in the season, the bag ends up in the hands and used by fellow survivors in the group or himself, or given away. At least until "Vatos" (S1E04), the contents of the bag included six shotguns, two high-powered rifles, a dozen handguns, and seven hundred rounds of ammunition, assorted. So far the current count from the bag is Harrington & Richardson Pardner Pump Compact, Harrington & Richardson Pardner Pump Protector, two Mossberg 500s with high-capacity magazine tube, Remington 870 Wingmaster, Remington 870, Browning Automatic Rifle Safari, Remington 700 BDL, Glock 17 (possibly more than one), SIG-Sauer P226, Smith & Wesson Model 10 snub-nose and a Smith & Wesson Model 586. In reality, that many guns in one bag would make it much too heavy to simply carry slung over the shoulder.

"M1A1 Abrams"

In the series premiere "Days Gone Bye" (S1E01), Rick is seen having to take refuge in what is probably supposed to be an M1A1 Abrams tank. The tank in the episode is actually a British Chieftain with a modified turret to resemble the M1A1.

This appears to be a Mark 11 tank, mounting the "Stillbrew" bolt-on armor package for the driver's position and turret, and minus the .50 cal coaxial ranging machine gun and the large infrared searchlight box on the left hand side of the turret.
