Revision as of 16:36, 5 March 2013
Octopussy is the 13th entry in the official James Bond film series. The 1983 installment follows James Bond (Roger Moore) as he travels to India and West Germany while investigating the death of a "00" agent who was in possession of a rare Fabergé egg. Of note is the switch from Bond's traditional Walther PPK to the then-new Walther P5 and for one of the earliest appearances of the Steyr AUG. This film was also released the same year Sean Connery returned to the role of Bond in the rival film Never Say Never Again.
The following weapons were used in the film Octopussy:
Handguns
Colt M1911
In the film's opening, a bearded, hefty, lascivious cigar-smoking South American V.I.P. (Brian Coburn) (suspiciously a Fidel Castro look-alike), and Bond (Roger Moore) is seen with holstered Colt M1911 pistols. After getting caught trying to plant a bomb inside the hangar, Bond's gun is taken by a South American Officer (Michael Halphie) who holds it to his back and takes him into custody.
Astra Cub
An nickel plated Astra Cub with pearl grips is seen featured in the credits sequence, first held by a woman lying down while 007 is projected on her in laser, and later seen "firing" red light in which silhouettes of women appear. During the attack on Kamal Khan's palace, Octopussy (Maud Adams) is also seen pulling an Astra, but it is knocked out of her hand by Gobinda (Kabir Bedi).
Makarov PM
PM is only featured in the credits sequence, first seen held by a woman as the "007" logo is seen projected in laser beams infront of the guns muzzle as if it was emitting from it. Then it is seen in the hand of one of the five arms that is wrapping around a silhouette of Bond (Roger Moore). Finally a hand holding a Makarov is seen as laserbeams is emitting from its muzzle.
Walther P5
The Walther P5 is the sidearm of James Bond (Roger Moore) in this film, despite having told Q that he "mislaid my PPK". The P5's use was to appease Walther, who wanted to promote the new pistol. Interesting to note is that the P5 was the same pistol used by Sean Connery in Never Say Never Again, the rival film version of Bond released the same year as Octopussy.
Walther PPK
During the credits sequence there is two brief appearances of a Walther PPK. It's first seen in the hand of one of the arms that wrap around Bond, and then later held by a gloved hand in front of a woman lying down as the producers name emitts out of its muzzle.
TT-33
General Orlov's (Steven Berkoff)'s sidearm appears to be an TT-33 pistol. He uses it to smash a Fabergé egg to peices, as he considers it to have caused them enough problems by leading Bond to them.
Smith & Wesson Model 39
Kamal Khan (Louis Jourdan) fires a Smith & Wesson Model 39 at Bond while the latter hangs onto the train.
SIG P210
With filming switching from studio to on location work on the railroad, Kamal Khan's stand-in uses a SIG P210 instead of the S&W used by (Louis Jourdan).
Colt Python
One of the U.S. Air Force Base Security police guards manning the gate at the West German U.S. Air Force base carries a Colt Python, which he draws on Bond when he attempts to enter with the German Police hot on his tail after stealing the car he is in. Because of the many civilians milling around, the guard is forced to fire his six shots into the air, to alert his comrades to the security threat.
Smith & Wesson Model 36
Octopussy (Maud Adams) takes a Smith & Wesson Model 36 from one of the U.S. Air Force Base Officers at the circus and uses it to blow the lock off the base of the circus cannon, revealing the atomic bomb inside.
Shotguns
Gobinda's Side by Side Shotgun
As he pursues Bond through the streets of Rajasthan, India, Gobinda (Kabir Bedi) is armed with a 12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun with a huge fluted muzzle resembling a blunderbuss.
Assault Rifles
FN FAL
During the pre-credits sequence, Bond (Roger Moore) dressed as Toro, passes some South American soldiers carrying FN FALs. Guards at the Brittish Embassy in West Berlin and some of Kamal's men in India is also seen with FALs.
Armalite AR-18
South American soldiers are seen carrying AR-18s during the pre-credits sequence.
MGC M-16 Model Gun Corp
During the pre-credits sequenc, most South American soldiers wield Japanese MGC M16 Model Gun Corp replica rifles with 20 round magazines. The soldiers guarding James Bond (Roger Moore) after his capture are armed with these M16s, after Bond pulls their parachute ripcords, he commandeers one and uses it to shoot out the truck's left front tire, causing it to crash (it has become a blank-firing M16A1 for that part).
M16A1
As Bond has commandered one of the soldiers' Japanese MGC M-16 Model Gun Corp Replica Rifles it has become an actual blank-firing M16A1 as he uses it to shoot out the truck's left front tire, causing it to crash. One soldier is seen with what appears to be a M16A1 as they launch the missile.
Type 56
The export model of the Type 56 is used by Soviets and GDR border guards in firing scenes.
Armi-Jager AP-80
Soviets are using Armi-Jager AP-80 as a stand-in for other Kalashnikov rifles in some scenes.
Steyr AUG
Oddly, carbine versions of the Steyr AUGs are used by a few Soviet soldiers in the movie. This is likely the earliest appearance of the Steyr AUG in a Hollywood film.
AKM
AKM rifles are seen twice in the film. One is seen in the hands of a Soviet firing it at Bond in Orlov's car, before he getts knocked over by some barrels. In an extended clip of that scene, shown in a trailer for the movie, the front of the rifle is seen from the side, clearly identifying it as an AKM. Later, as soldiers salvage General Orlov's (Steven Berkoff)'s car, one is seen carried by a soldier near the river.
Samopal vz. 58 "Infantry"
Samopal vz. 58 "Infantry" is seen carried by one of the Soviets on a jeap and later by a soldier near the boarder station in GDR.
AKS
One Soviet has an AKS slung on his shoulder at the car crash sight as General Orlov's (Steven Berkoff)'s car is being salvaged from the river. During the final fight at Kamal Khan's (Louis Jourdan)'s palace one of his guards can also be seen with one as they're trying to stop Bond from following Khan.
Sampal vz. 58 "Airborne"
Samopal vz. 58 "Airborne" is seen carried by one of the Soviets at the car crash sight and by one of Kamal's men who uses it to shoot at Bond (Roger Moore) who kills him, takes the gun, and uses it (most notably while sliding down the banister).
Rifles & Carbines
SKS
Soviet guards at the art depositry and some of Kamal Khan's guards can be seen with SKS rifles.
Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk.I
Most of Kamal Khan's guards use Lee-Enfield No.4 MkI rifles.
Weatherby Mk.V
Kamal Khan (Louis Jourdan) carries a Weatherby Mark V as his men search for Bond.
Machine Guns
L7 Machine Gun
An L7 Machine Gun is seen mounted on a Jeep pursuing Bond in the pre-credits sequence. Another one is seen outside the hangar before it blows up.
M60
What appears to be an M60 machine gun is seen mounted on a Dodge M37 after they've crashed and are trying to shoot at Bond's BD-5J.
Other Weapons
BSA Scorpion spring powered air pistol
Octopussy (Maud Adams) and her team use specialized air pistols (BSA Scorpion) loaded with tranquilizers to fight off Kamal's men.
