King Kong vs. Godzilla (キングコング対ゴジラ Kingu Kongu tai Gojira) is a 1962 Toho film co-produced with RKO Pictures and Universal Pictures as a 30th anniversary celebration of Toho. The film is the first time crossover between the Godzilla franchise and the King Kong franchise. The film is the third Godzilla film and the third King Kong film. It is also the first film to feature either monster in color and the first film of either franchise to have "Vs." in their title. It was directed by Ishiro Honda, and co-written by Shinichi Sekizawa and Eiji Tsuburaya.

A spiritual remake of the movie would be made and released in 2021, titled Godzilla vs. Kong as part of Legendary Pictures' shared cinematic universe, the "MonsterVerse".

Rifles

Marlin Model 336

What appears to be a Marlin Model 336 can be seen throughout the film being carried by Kazuo Fujita (Kenji Sahara). When the captured King Kong wakes up on the raft being dragged by their ship, his trashing threatens to cause it to sink. Kazuo and Osamu Sakurai fire at the explosives on the raft to free King Kong and prevent their ship from sinking.

Throughout the movie, Osamu Sakurai (Tadao Takashima) is armed with a rifle that could either be a Savage 99 or possibly a Winchester Model 88. He uses the rifle kill a giant lizard assaulting Kazuo and again to detonate the explosives on King Kong's raft.

Fictional Weapons

Recoilless Gas Launcher

The JSDF unveil a new weapon that resembles a Davy Crockett Weapon System which would go against Japan's Three Non-Nuclear Principles. The weapon turns out to not be a nuclear weapon but a recoilless rifle that fires air-bursting bombs filled with a gas that acts as a powerful sedative. The JSDF successfully use this against King Kong along with music and berry juices native to King Kong's island to cause the monster to fall asleep and be recaptured.
