He first carries it in a holster in "Seed" (S3E01) and then threatens inmates during a conflict in "Sick" (S3E02). Rick fires the Python at walkers and prison speakers during the walker attack in "Killer Within" (S3E04). Later, Oscar ([[Vincent Ward]]) picks up the revolver during a fight in the generator room. The Colt Python is seen holstered in "Say the Word" (S3E05) and "Hounded" (S3E06). At the beginning of "When the Dead Come Knocking" (S3E07), Rick fires the revolver at the walkers at the prison fence and briefly uses it in "Made to Suffer" (S3E08) and "The Suicide King" (S3E09). Grimes pulls out the gun and uses it when his M4A1 runs dry in "Home" (S3E10). The holstered gun is briefly seen in "I Ain't a Judas" (S3E11). Rick fires and reloads his revolver in "Clear" (S3E12). At the beginning of "Arrow on the Doorpost" (S3E13), he keeps his Colt at the ready as he arrives to negotiate with the Governor. The gun is seen in the holster in "Prey" (S3E14) and "This Sorrowful Life" (S3E15). Rick fires the Python in "Welcome to the Tombs" (S3E16), and gives it to Andrea ([[Laurie Holden]]) at the end of the episode. |

− | + | Along with his BDA, Carl Grimes ([[Chandler Riggs]]) uses a [[Beretta 92FS]] with a improvised suppressor during the Season 3. He shoots walkers in "Seed" (S3E01) during a sweep of the prison yard. In the same episode, the group find several pistols in the armory and Rick ([[Andrew Lincoln]]) and T-Dog ([[IronE Singleton]]) are briefly seen handling one. Andrea's ([[Laurie Holden]]) new companion named Michonne ([[Danai Gurira]]) gives her gun back to her at the military helicopter crash site at the beginning of "Walk With Me" (S3E03). A member of Woodbury's army named Shumpert aka "The Bowman" ([[Travis Love]]), as well as Private Wilson (Matthew Austin Murray) and another unnamed National Guardsman (Bob Fisher) carry pistols in holsters in the same episode. Carl cleans the suppressed pistol in "Killer Within" (S3E04) and fires it at walker in "Hounded" (S3E06). Both Carl and Andrea carry Berettas in "Made to Suffer" (S3E08). All three of Andrea, Shumpert, and Carl use their Berettas in "The Suicide King" (S3E09). In "Home" (S3E10) Carl and Andrea still carry guns, and one of the Woodbury residents (Russell Towery) who brought the walker van to the prison fires the Beretta at Michonne at the end of the episode. Rick disarms Andrea in "I Ain't a Judas" (S3E11) by taking her Beretta, but gives it back to her at the end of the episode. Carl pulls the pistol on an unknown gunman in King County, Georgia during a sortie in "Clear" (S3E12). Andrea carries her holstered Beretta in "Arrow on the Doorpost" (S3E13). Andrea gives up the holstered pistol to Martinez ([[Jose Pablo Cantillo]]) in "Prey" (S3E14). Shumpert is also seen with his gun holstered at the walker pit area in the same episode. Carl shoots a Woodbury soldier in woods in "Welcome to the Tombs" (S3E16).

Merle ([[Michael Rooker]]) quickly takes the gun away and carries it with him for the rest of the episode, before it is taken by another guard (Mitchell Gunter) who also carries it at the beginning of "The Suicide King" (S3E09). An elderly Woodbury resident (uncredited) holds the Uzi while guarding a wall in "I Ain't a Judas" (S3E11). − | + | ==Colt M4A1==
− | [[ | + | Throughout the season, [[M4A1]] carbines are now far more common than they were in the previous seasons, wielded by many main and minor characters, with most of the carbines equipped with Aimpoint CompM2 CCO red dot scopes and/or 10x telescopic optics, with also many fitted with a picatinny scope/optic rail riser most likely to clear the front post sight. Clearing the prison yard of walkers at the beginning of "Seed" (S3E01) Hershel ([[Scott Wilson]]) is seen firing an [[M4A1]] with an Aimpoint CompM2 CCO sight on a scope rail riser from a watchtower. Another carbine is also found among the weapons in the prison and is briefly handled by T-Dog ([[IronE Singleton]]) later in the same episode. Most of the National Guardsmen (including Bob Fisher, [[Philip Dido]] and [[Dwayne Boyd]]) including Private Sean ([[Troy Faruk]]) and Private Wilson (Matthew Austin Murray) are armed with M4A1 carbines in "Walk With Me" (S3E03). One of The Governor's men named Crowley ([[Arthur Bridgers]]) wields a M4A1 with an optic scope and camouflage wrap during the episode. Merle ([[Michael Rooker]]) also takes a carbine fitted with a scope and suppressor from another guard ([[Dango Nguyen]]) to kill a walker from the wall at night. The next morning he uses a standard rifle during an attack on a National Army camp. Glenn ([[Steven Yeun]]) fires a M4A1 with an Aimpoint CompM2 to cover Maggie and Daryl at the end of "Say the Word" (S3E05). Going to Woodbury in "When the Dead Come Knocking" (S3E07) Oscar ([[Vincent Ward]]) takes a M4A1 with an Aimpoint sight on a scope riser and briefly carries it up to the beginning of "Made to Suffer" (S3E08) before Rick ([[Andrew Lincoln]]) swaps "Shane's" Mossberg shotgun for the carbine. At least one Woodbury resident ([[William Tokarsky]]) is seen with a M4 while on duty guarding the wall in "When the Dead Come Knocking" (S3E07). Rick uses the M4A1 to great effect in "Made to Suffer" (S3E08) and later both him and Maggie ([[Lauren Cohan]]) are seen firing M4A1s (the latter fitted with a telescopic optic) in "The Suicide King" (S3E09). During the attack on the prison at the end of "Home" (S3E10), Rick, Maggie, Michonne ([[Danai Gurira]]), and Carol ([[Melissa McBride]]) use M4A1 carbines to defend the prison. At least one Woodbury guard (uncredited) aims the rifle at the end of "I Ain't a Judas" (S3E11). During the arrival of the unknown car to the prison in the same episode, Rick, Carol, and Michonne wield up M4A1s. A masked Morgan ([[Lennie James]]) fires an optic scoped carbine in "Clear" (S3E12) until Michonne takes it away as he's disarmed. Rick also examines one of the many M4s in his hideout. Going to negotiate with Woodbury's men Hershel takes a scoped carbine with him in "Arrow on the Doorpost" (S3E13). Glenn and Carol also hold rifles with optic sights in the same episode. Rick carries his M4A1 with just a Aimpoint to scan the prison (which shows a traditional sniper crosshair instead of a red dot) in "This Sorrowful Life" (S3E15), as does Merle taking a rifle fitted with a scope with him while ambushing the Governor's squad. Maggie, Rick, Michonne, Daryl ([[Norman Reedus]]) and at least one Woodbury soldier ([[William Tokarsky]]) use M4A1s with various optics and attachments during "Welcome to the Tombs" (S3E16). In the production image for the episode, Karen ([[Melissa Ponzio]]) is also seen with a M4A1. |

Rick disarms Andrea in "I Ain't a Judas" (S3E11) by taking her Beretta, but gives it back to her at the end of the episode. After a brief fight, Merle (Michael Rooker) picks up his gun and briefly uses it until surrendering it to Glenn and Maggie. The Woodbury guard (Russell Towery) who noticed the break-in of Rick's group into the warehouse in "Made to Suffer" (S3E08) holds the P99, but Maggie (Lauren Cohan) takes it away after disarming him. Maggie also carries it in "The Suicide King" (S3E09). Philip Blake / "The Governor" (David Morrissey) uses a Steyr AUG A1 in "Home" (S3E10). He also uses the rifle during the second attack on the prison in "Welcome to the Tombs" (S3E16).
TRIVIA: The weapon is likely meant to be a full-auto conversion of an AUG SA, a semi-automatic variant of the A1 which was imported to the US for civilian use before being banned in 1989. Fully-automatic AUGs are extremely rare in the United States, as unlike the M4A1 they are not military issue and are not used by any law enforcement entities apart from US Customs and Immigration Enforcement. The civilian variant of the AUG is the STG-556 which has a different design than the A1.

Due to a continuity error, Daryl (Norman Reedus) takes a Type 56-1 with a CAA Tactical XRS47-SET handguard out of the car trunk in "When the Dead Come Knocking" (S3E07), however, Oscar left the WASR-10 there before that. In a subsequent "Made to Suffer" (S3E08), Daryl uses the Type during a firefight with the Governor's men. Glenn (Steven Yeun) also briefly holds the rifle in the same episode.
