The Good Shepherd is a 2006 spy drama directed by Robert De Niro and starring Matt Damon as CIA officer Edward Wilson. Loosely based on actual events and the life of real American intelligence operative James Jesus Angleton, the film follows Wilson from his college days at Yale to his participation in the birth of counter-intelligence operations within the Central Intelligence Agency.

Edward Wilson is an ambitious literature student at the elite Yale University. In 1939, he joins the Skull and Bones Society, a secret fraternity that recruits potential leaders for U.S. politics. Wilson quickly stands out for his unwavering belief in American values, his impeccable resume, and his exceedingly sharp mind. Only a short time later, the young idealist is recruited by the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), an intelligence agency founded during World War II and considered the forerunner of the CIA.

The cast also includes Timothy Hutton, Tammy Blanchard, Michael Gambon, and Eddie Redmayne.

The following weapons were used in the film The Good Shepherd:

Colt New Service

During the flashback to 1925, Admiral Thomas Wilson (Timothy Hutton) commits suicide with a Colt New Service.

Adm. Wilson lies on his office floor with the New Service in his hand.

Walther P38

The OSS assassin sent by Edward Wilson (Matt Damon) to kill Hanna Schiller (Martina Gedeck) uses a suppressed Walther P38.

M1 Garand

Some of the Soviets occupying Berlin after WWII are inappropriately armed with M1 Garand rifles. Soldiers in the unnamed Central American country carry M1 rifles when arresting Dr. Ibanez (Marcos Cohen).

A Soviet soldier in 1945 Berlin walks past Allen and Wilson with a Garand slung over his back.

Simonov SKS

Some of the Soviets occupying Berlin have SKS rifles.

Two Soviet soldiers with SKS rifles. The right one appears to be an anachronistic Zastava M59/66 with the 22mm rifle grenade launcher at the end of the barrel.
