The first season is created by Robert Kirkman and Dave Erickson and directed by Adam Davidson, Kari Skogland and Stefan Schwartz. The season shows the early days of the fall of civilization on behalf of three families - the Clarks, the Manawas, and the Salazars. Once in the safe zone of the US Marines they soon realize that the military cannot be trusted and begin the struggle to save themselves. Nick (Frank Dillane) and Madison Clark (Kim Dickens) find a Sarsilmaz Centurion in a closet at Patrick's house in "The Dog" (S1E03). In the same episode, Daniel Salazar (Rubén Blades) shoots this shotgun at a turned neighbor named Peter Dawson. The next morning, Daniel (Rubén Blades) tells Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie) about this shotgun and gives it to him to hold. Travis Manawa (Cliff Curtis) uses the shotgun in "The Good Man" (S1E06).
Assault Rifles
M4A1
Members of the LAPD SWAT team are seen using an M4A1 to fire at infected medical patients. US Army soldiers, including Lt. Moyers (Jamie McShane), also carry M4A1 assault rifles throughout the season.
Sniper rifles
Barrett M82A1M
Lt. Moyers (Jamie McShane) takes out a Barrett M82A1M from the trunk of a Humvee, and gives Travis the opportunity to take out a walker in "Cobalt" (S1E05). After that, Moyers kills walkers himself.

A US Army soldier carries an M249-E2 SAW machine gun in "The Dog" (S1E03).
M60E3 Machine Gun
A US Army soldier (Panou) uses an M60E3 machine gun to fend off walkers in "The Good Man" (S1E06).

A few Browning M2 machine guns are seen atop US Army Humvees beginning in "The Dog" (S1E03). Lt. Moyers (Jamie McShane) also mans one in "Cobalt" (S1E05).

Liza Ortiz (Elizabeth Rodriguez) uses a Captive bolt pistol to put down dying Griselda Salazar (Patricia Reyes Spíndola) in "Cobalt" (S1E05).
