Captain America: The First Avenger is the 2011 feature film adaptation of the Marvel comic book series. Directed by Joe Johnston (The Rocketeer), the film stars Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, a young man from Brooklyn who during the Second World War, desires to join the US war effort, but is rejected due to his undersized stature. When he volunteers to be part of a secret US program, Rogers then finds himself genetically transformed into the world's first super soldier. The First Avenger is also part of "Phase One" of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that includes Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, and Thor and culminated in 2012's The Avengers. In addition to the 2012 film, Chris Evans returned as Captain America in the standalone sequels Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War as well as 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron and 2019's Avengers: Endgame. Hayley Atwell would return as Peggy Carter in several MCU productions, including a Marvel One-Shot and a 2015 ABC television series.
The following weapons were used in the film Captain America: The First Avenger:
WARNING! THIS PAGE CONTAINS SPOILERS!
Handguns
Colt M1911A1
The M1911A1 appears as the sidearm of the US forces in the film as Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans), and Sgt. James "Bucky" Barnes (Sebastian Stan) employ them as their sidearms during the film.
Luger P08
Johann Schmidt, aka Red Skull (Hugo Weaving) uses a Luger P08 as his sidearm early in the film. Later, after embracing the Tesseract technology he uses an energy-based weapon with similiar styling to a luger, but it's an entirely fabricated prop gun.
Smith & Wesson Model 10
As Peggy picks up an M1911A1, several Smith & Wesson Model 10 revolvers can be seen.
Walther PPK
Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) uses a Walther PPK as her sidearm in the film. She most notably wields it after Rogers is made into Captain America, trying to shoot HYDRA spy Heinz Kruger (Richard Armitage).
Walther P38
Heinz Kruger (Richard Armitage) uses a Walther P38 during his attack on the SSR laboratory early in the film, and his subsequent escape through the streets of New York. In typical film fashion, he fires far more rounds than the pistol can hold. Another notable goof is that it does not lock empty, but simply clicks when Kruger tries to fire it. An actor portraying Hitler is seen with a Walther P38 before he's "knocked out" during Captain America's war bonds tour.
Webley Mk VI
James Montgomery Falsworth (J. J. Feild) is equipped with a Webley Mk VI.
Colt M1917 Revolver
Dum Dum Dugan (Neal McDonough) can be seen with what appears to be a Colt M1917 Revolver during the raid on Red Skull's mountain hideout.
Submachine Guns
Sten MkII SMG
James Montgomery Falsworth (J. J. Feild) and Jacques Dernier (Bruno Ricci) carry Sten MkII submachine guns as their chief firearms after joining Captain America's "Howling Commandos". Some of the energy-based HYDRA weapons also appear to be mocked-up Stens submachine guns as well.
M1921 Thompson
An old woman has a M1921 Thompson submachine gun under her desk at the entrance of the SSR research facility. The woman tries to fire the Thompson at Heinz Kruger (Richard Armitage) after his attack on the facility, but is gunned down by Kruger. Kruger takes the Thompson and subsequently uses it until it runs out of ammo. Steve Rogers, aka Captain America (Chris Evans) uses the A variant fitted with a 50 round drum magazine in an American propaganda film.
M1928A1 Thompson
Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), Sgt. James "Bucky" Barnes (Sebastian Stan), and Gabe Jones (Derek Luke) as well as other American soldiers use the M1928A1 Thompson throughout the film. Captain America (Chris Evans) also has one slung over his shoulder in some scenes. In a deleted scene, both Gabe and Dum Dum Dugan (Neal McDonough) are seen with the Thompson.
MP40
German soldiers and HYDRA soldiers use the MP40 submachine gun throughout the film, most notably during the opening scene in Norway.
M3/M3A1 "Grease Gun"
Jim Morita (Kenneth Choi), one of the "Howling Commandos", uses a M3 / M3A1 "Grease Gun" as his primary firearm throughout the film. A US soldier is also seen with an M3 during the final attack on the HYDRA base.
Special
Shotguns
Winchester Model 1897 "Trench Gun"
Timothy "Dum Dum" Dugan (Neal McDonough), one of Captain America's "Howling Commandos" carries a Winchester Model 1897 "Trench Gun" as his primary firearm throughout the film. Colonel Chester Phillips (Tommy Lee Jones) also carries one during the the final battle at the HYDRA base.
Rifles
M1 Garand Rifle
Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) uses an M1 Garand during his training for the super soldier test. Several American soldiers also carry and use the M1 Garand during battle scenes.
M1 Carbine
Various US soldiers use the M1 Carbine in both regular and A1 folding-stock configurations throughout the film.
Special
M1941 Johnson rifle
Sgt. James "Bucky" Barnes (Sebastian Stan) uses a customized, scoped M1941 Johnson rifle in the mountains. It is incorrectly portrayed as a bolt action rifle when it is, in fact, semi-automatic.
M1903A1 Springfield
In a deleted scene, Sgt. James "Bucky" Barnes (Sebastian Stan) uses an M1903A1 Springfield with scope.
Machine Guns
Browning M1919A4
Gabe Jones (Derek Luke), one of Captain America's "Howling Commandos" carries a Browning M1919A4 machine gun as his firearm of choice. Instead of being mounted on a vehicle, the M1919A4 is carried with a shoulder strap and fired from the chest by Gabe.
Other
Mk 2 hand grenade
A dummy Mk 2 hand grenade is thrown by Colonel Chester Phillips (Tommy Lee Jones) at the U.S. Army super soldier boot camp.
Mills Bomb
James Montgomery Falsworth (J. J. Feild), one of the "Howling Commandos", carries several Mills bombs in the film.
Model 24 Stielhandgranate
Model 24 Stielhandgranates are used by several freed "Howling Commandos" during the raid on a HYDRA base imprisoning them. In this film, the Model 24's inaccurately emit a 'ping' sound when armed, as with an Allied hand grenade using a safety pin and arming lever arrangement, whereas German WW2 grenades used a pull-cord fuse design.
Custom Weapons
The HYDRA organization wields several custom weapons including custom machine guns, energy weapons, and flamethrowers.
