Hearts of the World
Hearts of the World (also known as Love's Struggle) is a 1918 American silent World War I propaganda film written, produced and directed by D. W. Griffith (The Birth of a Nation). The story begins just before the beginning of the First World War in a small French village known for its idyllic atmosphere. A girl who lives with her grandparents falls in love with an American boy living there. The two conspire. A few days before the wedding, soldiers are mobilized and the men go to war. The boy also feels obliged to fight for the country in which he lives.
The following weapons were used in the film Hearts of the World:
Colt Model 1902
The Colt Model 1902 is used by various characters including the Boy (Robert Harron), the German officer Von Strohm (George Siegmann) and American officers.
During the parade French soldiers are seen with Krag-Jørgensen M1896 rifles standing in for Lebel 1886 rifles.
Mauser Model M1893
Some French soldiers during the same parade can be seen with Spanish Mauser M1893 rifles which are most likely leftovers from the Spanish-American War of 1898.
Dutch Beaumont-Vitali M1871/88 rifles are used by French, German, and American troops.
Mauser Gewehr 1898
German soldiers use correct Gewehr 98 rifles.

Model 15 Stielhandgranate
German soldiers use Model 15 Stielhandgranates which are probably mockups. The Little Disturber (Dorothy Gish) uses this grenade at the end.
French soldiers including the Boy can be seen with unknown grenades.
9.2 inch Mark I Siege Howitzer
The 9.2 inch Mark I Siege Howitzer is briefly seen during the final charge of the village.
