Nice, but where's the trigger? This article or section is incomplete. You can help IMFDB by expanding it. |
Project Reality: Vietnam is a spin-off to the Project Reality mod, based on Battlefield 2. The mod focuses on the Vietnam War.
The following weapons appear in the video game Project Reality: Vietnam:
Sidearms
M1911A1
The M1911A1 appears in the game as the sidearm for the US Army & Marine Corps (USMC) factions, issued to the Pilot, Officer, Sniper and interestingly enough, the Grenadier class is also issued with a M1911 instead of a rifle like the other factions that share the use of M79.
Tokarev TT-33
The Tokarev TT-33 pistol replaces the Makarov PM from previous versions as the main sidearm for the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) factions' Officer & Sniper classes.
Submachine Guns
M3A1 "Grease Gun"
The M3A1 "Grease Gun" is used by the US Army & Marine Corp (USMC) factions' Crewman classes. A goof is present in that the weapon ejects rifle casings when fired, as opposed to pistol casings. It is also one of two submachine guns in the game without a semi-auto fire mode, the other being the MAT-49 mentioned below.
Sa. Vz.61 Skorpion
The Sa. Vz.61 Skorpion appears in the game as the main weapon of the NVA's Vehicle Crewman class, loaded with a 20-round magazine.
MAT-49
The MAT-49 appears being used by the NVA faction. It is the only other submachine gun in the game without a semi-automatic fire mode.
PPSh-41
The PPSh-41 appears in the game being used by the NVA faction with it's standard drum magazine, and is one of the older weapons seen in the game so far.
Shotguns
Remington 870
The Remington 870, fitted with a high-capacity magazine tube, appears in the game as the "M870" being used by the USMC & US Army factions' Breacher classes, replacing the anachronistic Mossberg 590 from earlier versions.
Rifles
M16A1 Rifle
The M16A1 rifle appears in the game as the main weapon of the US Army & US Marine Corps (USMC) factions, loaded with both 20 and 30-round magazines depending on the class.
M14 Rifle
The M14 rifle appears as an available weapon for some classes of the US Marine Corps & US Army factions.
Mosin-Nagant M91/30
The Mosin-Nagant M91/30 appears in the game as the main weapon of the NVA's Medic & Combat Engineer classes.
SKS Rifle
The SKS rifle appears in the game as the NVA faction's counter to the American M14, complete with underfolding blade-type bayonet.
AK-47
The AK-47 appears in the game as the main weapon of the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) faction, and can be fitted with an optional bayonet for close-quarters melee fighting.
Sniper Rifles
M21 Designated Marksman Rifle
The M21 Designated Marksman Rifle appears as part of the game, used by the U.S. Army & USMC factions' Sniper classes, despite being called the "M14" in-game like its' select-fire counterpart. It also features an anachronistic Leupold Mark 4 scope (which didn't enter production until the early 2000's), likely a hold-over from Project Reality.
Mosin Nagant M91/30 Sniper Rifle
The NVA factions' Sniper class uses the Mosin Nagant M91/30 Sniper Rifle as their primary weapon. It functions identically to the standard M91/30 mentioned above, though with a PU scope for increased accuracy and takes a bit longer to bring to bear.
Machine Guns
M60 Machine Gun
The M60 machine gun appears in the game as the primary weapon of the US Army & USMC factions' Automatic Rifleman and Machine Gunner classes (there seems to be no difference between the two). It also appears mounted on M151 MUTT jeeps, M548 tracked cargo vehicles, door-mounted on USMC & US Army UH-1 Huey & H-34 Choctaw helicopters, as well as a secondary weapon on PBR boats & M113 APC's, the ones on the M113's being fitted with gun shields to protect the gunner from enemy small-arms fire.
RPK
The RPK appears as the primary weapon for the NVA's Automatic Rifleman class. This weapon was only issued in small numbers and is anachronistic for some maps (Being first issued in the 1972 spring offensive).
Degtyaryov DP-28 Machine Gun
The NVA factions' Automatic Rifleman class uses the Degtyaryov DP-28 Machine Gun as an alternative primary weapon.
PKM Machine Gun
The PKM machine gun appears in the game as the primary weapon for the NVA factions' Machine Gunner class. Although the similar PK machinegun was issued in small numbers towards the end of the war; the NVA mainly used the RPD light machine gun.
Mounted Weapons
M73 Machine Gun
The M73 machine gun appears in the game as a secondary weapon on the US Army & USMC M551 Sheridan light tanks & M48 Patton medium tanks mounted coaxially next to the main gun.
Browning M2HB Heavy Machine Gun
The Browning M2HB heavy machine gun appears in the game as a secondary weapon mounted on US Army M551 Sheridan light tanks & M48 Patton medium tanks and as the primary weapon on M113 APC's, and on US PBR boats in a twin turret mounting on the bow as seen in Apocalypse Now (as well as a single M2HB mounted on the stern). They can also be seen tripod-mounted in US machine gun nests.
GE M134 Minigun
The GE M134 Minigun appears in the game mounted on US Army & USMC UH-1 Huey gunship helicopters as part of the M21 armament subsystem.
M61 Vulcan
The M61 Vulcan appears in the game as the primary armament of the US factions' M163 VADS air-defense vehicles.
Degtyaryov DT Machine Gun
The Degtyaryov DT machine gun appears as the secondary weapon of the NVA's T34-85 tanks, mounted coaxially next to the main gun.
DShK Heavy Machine Gun
The DShK heavy machine gun appears in the game as the NVA counter to the American M2HB heavy machine gun, mounted on UAZ-469 jeeps (despite having no visible ammo source), PT-76 amphibious tanks, and on sampan boats. It is also tripod-mounted in NVA machine gun nests. Interestingly, the tripod-mounted DShK uses the same M3 tripod as the American M2HB.
KPV Heavy Machine Gun
The KPV heavy machine gun appears in the game in a ZPU-4 quad anti-aircraft mounting. The KPVT heavy machine gun also appears in the game as the primary armament of the NVA's BTR-60 APC.
Type 99 Cannon
On the Tad Sae map, the player can find a crashed A6M Zero fighter, the derelict fighter still having one of its' Type 99 cannons mounted in the remaining wing, though it's not usable.
Hispano-Suiza HS.404
The Hispano-Suiza HS.404 appears in the game under the American M2 designation as the secondary armament of the US factions' A-1H "Sandy" ground-attack planes, mounted two each in each wing for a total of four guns.
SPG-9 Recoilless Rifle
The SPG-9 recoilless rifle appears in the game as the tripod-mounted NVA antitank weapon. It can switch between HEAT and HE-Frag ammo.
M252 Mortar
The M252 mortar can be mounted in mortar pits to provide fire support for players. In order to use the weapon, a forward observer must call in a fire mission and the co-ordinates entered into the sight. The M252 is used by both the US and NVA factions. Note that it is anachronistic; the actual M252 entered service in 1986.
Launchers
M79 Grenade Launcher
The M79 grenade launcher appears in the game as the secondary weapon of the US Army & USMC factions' Grenadier class. It can fire high-explosive, smoke, and buckshot rounds, and can be adjusted to engage targets from 50 to 350 meters.
M72 LAW
The M72 LAW is carried by the US Army & USMC factions' Light Anti-Tank classes.
M20 "Super Bazooka"
The M20 "Super Bazooka" is used by the US Army & Marine Corps factions' Heavy Anti-Tank classes.
RPG-7
The RPG-7 is carried by the NVA faction's Light Anti-Tank class. It is armed with VM warheads.
M18 Recoilless Rifle
The NVA factions' Heavy Anti-Tank class uses the M18 Recoilless Rifle under the Chinese "Type 36" designation. This is historically accurate, as the Chinese Communists captured blueprints of the M18 given to the Nationalists by the US after the Communist victory in the Chinese Civil War. They then subsequently supplied the weapon to the North Vietnamese during the war.
Grenades
M61 Hand Grenade
the M61 hand grenade, the upgraded version of the M26 hand grenade, appears in the game being used by the US Army & USMC factions.
M83 Smoke Grenade
the M83 smoke grenade appears in the game being used by the US Army & USMC factions, though is erroneously referred to in-game as the "M18 smoke grenade" despite only producing white smoke.
M18 Smoke Grenade
The M18 smoke grenade appears in the game being used by several classes of the US & NVA factions, producing thick clouds of purple (US) or orange (NVA) smoke. It is referred to in-game as the "AN/M18 smoke grenade".
AN/M14 Incendiary Grenade
The AN/M14 incendiary grenade appears in the game being used by all three playable factions. It is primarily intended for use as an anti-materiel weapon, but can inflict severe burns on unwary infantry who get too close to it while it's burning. It should be noted that the in-game AN/M14 has the overall red body, which is somewhat anachronistic for that time period.
F-1 Hand Grenade
The F-1 hand grenade appears in the game being used by the NVA faction. It is also used as a component in the "grenade trap" IED.
RGD-33 stick grenade
The RGD-33 stick grenade appears in the game being used by the NVA factions' Rifleman AP class.
RKG-3 Anti-Tank Grenade
The RKG-3 anti-tank grenade appears being used by the NVA faction.
RDG-2 Smoke Grenade
The RDG-2 smoke grenade appears in the game as the NVA factions' answer to the M83 smoke grenade used by the US factions.
Mines
M18A1 Claymore
The M18A1 Claymore anti-personnel mine appears in the game being used by the USMC & US Army factions. The player can set several of these mines and select which one to remotely detonate.
MON-50 Anti-Personnel Mine
The MON-50 anti-personnel mine appears in the game as the NVA counterpart to the American M18A1 Claymore, and functions exactly the same.
M15 Anti-Tank Mine
The M15 anti-tank mine appears in the game being used by the US Army & USMC Combat Engineer class. Hitting one of these mines is instant death for all vehicles except for tanks, which will take critical damage but still provide the crew with a brief window of time to escape the tank before it explodes.
