The SPSh (Signalny Pistolet Shpagina) is a Russian flare pistol designed by Georgy Semyonovich Shpagin (best known for his PPSh-41 submachine gun). It entered service in 1943 as SPSh-43. In 1944 Shpagin designed a modified model, the SPSh-44 (also known as SPSh-2). The SPSh was replaced from 1981 by more compact SP81.
In Western countries, the SPSh is known as the Kovrov Arsenal flare pistol.
