Black Panther is the 2018 feature film adaptation of the Marvel Comics superhero as portrayed by Chadwick Boseman, who was previously introduced in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. The film is part of "Phase Three" of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that includes the aforementioned Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol.2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Thor: Ragnarok, and culminated in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War.

In 1992, the M16A4 had not yet been adopted by the U.S. military, but Colt had just begun to manufacture AR-15 rifles with flattop receivers that looked nearly identical to the M16A4, though their use during this time period is highly unlikely.
