The film was directed by Taika Waititi and is part of "Phase Three" of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that includes Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Black Panther and will culminate in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War and 2019's Avengers: Endgame.

The following weapons were used in the film Thor: Ragnarok:

M16 (SP1)

Skurge (Karl Urban) keeps and wields dual M16-style rifles, including one that appears to be an M16/SP1. Aside from affectionately referring to them as "Des" and "Troy", he mentions acquiring them from Earth, specifically Texas, USA. The use of the M16 rifles are a direct reference to Skurge's appearance in the comic books.
