Medal of Honor: European Assault is the 2005 eighth installment in the Medal of Honor series which returns from the Pacific to the battlefields of Europe. The game was developed by EA and was released in the summer of 2005 for three consoles PlayStation 2, GameCube, and Xbox. The storyline for it was written by screenwriter John Milius. The game was originally supposed to be released as Medal of Honor: Dogs of War, but then underwent another name change. Despite the title, European Assault is not set exclusively in Europe, but once again in North Africa. There are four single-player campaigns, where the player takes control of the American Lt. William Holt from 1942 on. In addition to North Africa, where supporting the British Desert Rats in Tunisia, the campaign takes part in the battles for the German U-boat bunker in Saint-Nazaire, fight alongside the Soviets in Stalingrad, and finally resist the German Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. The game also offers content such as a bullet-time mode, officers as boss opponents, and "power-ups" for the first time.
Note: An emulator was used to capture very high-resolution screenshots of this game for clarity. This upscaling required disabling some post-processing effects due to resulting graphical glitches. All screenshots have been checked against original PS2 footage to ensure that any glitches noted on this page are also present in the PS2 version.
The following weapons appear in the video game Medal of Honor: European Assault:
Handguns
Colt M1911
The Colt M1911 is the only sidearm in the game which is the standard secondary weapon for both factions in the multiplayer mode. Some NPCs have holstered Colts which they never use in-game.
Submachine Guns
M1928A1 Thompson
The M1928A1 Thompson appears incorrectly as the "M1 Thompson SMG" and is the player character's starting weapon in the "St. Nazaire" campaign missions. It is worth noting that the weapon is modeled with a 30-round box magazine, that only contains 20 rounds.
MP28
The Haenel MP28/II is only available in the multiplayer game mode for the German "Infantry" class.
MP40
The MP40 is the main weapon of the German infantrymen in-game. Referred to as the "MP40 SMG", it serves with the animation and the model as a base for the following Medal of Honor titles.
PPSh-41
The PPSh-41 is a playable weapon for the "Stalingrad" campaign missions.
Sten Mk. IIS
The suppressed Sten Mk IIS is another multiplayer-only weapon that is used by the British "Infantry" class.
Shotguns
Winchester Model 1897
The shotgun's world model is a Winchester Model 1897.
Winchester Model 1912
The Winchester Model 1912 is called "Shotgun" in-game and is the weapon of choice for close engagements.
Rifles
Gewehr 43
The Gewehr 43 appears simply as the "Gewehr". Its first appearance in January 1943 during the Stalingrad missions is anachronistic; the rifle was put into production in October of that year. A scoped rifle is playable in the "Battle of the Bulge" single-player campaign missions.
Karabiner 98k
The second most used weapon of the Wehrmacht is the Karabiner 98k.
Lee-Enfield No .1 Mk. III*
A scoped variant of the Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mk III* appears with a 5-round magazine, despite having a 10-round capacity.
M1 Garand
The standard rifle for British and U.S. forces is the M1 Garand. The scoped M1D Garand is available in the second Ardennes mission "Farmhouse Liberation".
Mosin Nagant M91/30
In the second mission on the Eastern Front, the player character starts with a Mosin Nagant M91/30 with a turned-down bolt handle. The scoped variant is available for both factions in the multiplayer.
Sturmgewehr 44
German soldiers in the second Russian mission used Sturmgewehr 44 assault rifles which is an anachronism. The use of the Sturmgewehr in the mission set in the Ardennes in December 1944 is correct. In multiplayer, it is available to the "Heavy Weapons" class for the Axis.
Machine Guns
M1918A2 Browning Automatic Rifle
The M1918A2 Browning Automatic Rifle appears as "BAR" and is the only portable machine gun in the game. It is the standard weapon for the "Heavy Weapons" class for the Allies in the multiplayer.
Launchers
M1 Bazooka
The M1 "Bazooka" is available in the first Stalingrad mission.
M9 Bazooka
The player has access to the M9 "Bazooka" in the Ardennes missions. Except for aiming down the sights, it has the same animations as the M1 Bazooka.
Grenades & Explosions
M18 smoke grenade
Low-detailed M18 smoke grenade are seen on the ground.
Mills Bomb
The Mills Bomb is the standard grenade in the "St. Nazaire" campaign and appears as the "Brit Grenade". It can be thrown without pulling the pin.
Mk 2 Hand Grenade
The Mk 2 hand grenade is the standard grenade for American soldiers. Like the Mills Bomb, the player character can throw it without using the pin or removing the safety lever.
Model 24 Stielhandgranate
The Model 24 Stielhandgranate is used by German soldiers and can be picked up by the player character.
Mounted Weapons
2 cm Flakvierling 38
A Flakvierling 38 can be seen mounted on a rooftop in the "St. Nazaire" missions.
15 cm Nebelwerfer 41
In the "On the Road to Stalingrad" mission, a 15 cm Nebelwerfer 41 must be used to destroy the railway gun.
20 mm Hispano-Suiza HS.404
Several British Hawker Hurricane single-seat fighter aircraft seen on a multiplayer map have four mounted Hispano-Suiza HS.404 cannons.
20 mm Oerlikon Cannon
Oerlikon 20mm Cannon are mounted on the HMS Campbeltown in the "St. Nazaire" single-player missions.
8.8 cm FlaK 18
28 cm Kanone 5 (E)
A 28 cm Kanone 5 (E) must be destroyed in the first Russian mission "On the Road to Stalingrad".
Browning M1919A4
Browning M1919A4s are seen mounted on M4 Sherman tanks.
Degtyaryov DT
A T-34/76 in the Russian campaign is seen with two mounted Degtyaryov DT machine guns.
MG 34 Panzerlauf
The MG 34 Panzerlauf is seen mounted on German Panzer IV Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger I and Köinigstiger (King Tiger) II tanks.
MG42
The MG42 appears as a stationary weapon.
T66 launcher
