Work In Progress This article is still under construction. It may contain factual errors. See Talk:Ghost Recon 2: 2007 First Contact for current discussions. Content is subject to change. |
Ghost Recon 2: 2007 First Contact is the Gamecube/PS2 version of Ghost Recon 2: 2011 Final Assault for the Xbox. After the Gamecube/PS2 were found to be too weak to handle the Xbox version of the game, a dedicated version using a stripped-back engine was released for the Gamecube and PS2, this version is a prequel, set during the Korean War of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory with orignal missions and cutscenes.
This version has several notable gameplay changes, such as no manual saving, less weaponry and more linear missions, this version generally reviewed lower than the Xbox version due to less balanced difficulty and stripping the tactical elements even further back and the combined somewhat mixed reception of both ended up scrapping plans for any PC ports.
Pistol
Beretta M9
The Beretta M9 is presumably still the standard sidearm of the Ghosts and is called the "M9 SD", it is only ever available with a suppressor and is only seen being used by Mitchell as a secondary weapon if he doesn't have a grenade launcher equipped on his primary weapon when starting a mission, with the exception of the "Lone Wolf" Loadout, where Mitchell carries the Beretta in what is his normally his explosives slot. (Despite the suppressor, the game seems to lack any sort of stealth mechanics.)
Assault Rifles
Heckler & Koch XM29 OICW
The XM29 Objective Individual Combat Weapon appears in "Lone Wolf" missions, being carried by Mitchell, it has a low fire rate but high damage and the grenade launcher is inaccurately portrayed as holding only 1 grenade at a time, it is the only primary weapon Mitchell can't drop.
Heckler & Koch XM8 Carbine
The XM8 Carbine appears being used by the Ghosts in the late-game, it can be mounted with the XM320 launcher.
Colt M16
A unknown full-auto M16 appears as the weapon available with a grenade launcher.
Type 56
The Type 56 is used as the main weapon of the North Korean People's Army, being used by roughly 90 percent of the enemies in the game. It has the milled receiver of early Type 56s, and the Type 56-2's side folding stock (as well as an underfolding bayonet).
Sniper Rifles
Knight's Armament Company SR-25
The SR-25 appears as the "M16 SPR".
M14 Designated Marksman Rifle
The M14 DMR appears in-game.
Heckler & Koch XM8 Sharpshooter Rifle
The XM8 Sharpshooter Rifle is used by the Ghosts in the late-game, it holds 20 rounds in a magazine ans is capable of fully automatic fire.
SVD Dragunov
The Dragunov appears very rarely being used by enemy snipers.
Machine Guns
Heckler & Koch XM8 Automatic Rifle
The XM8 Automatic Rifle appears as the final LMG used by the Ghosts
Mk 46 Mod 0
The Mk 46 Mod 0 is used by the Ghosts.
FN M240G
The FN M240G appears as the second LMG used by the Ghosts.
M60D
The M60D appears mounted on the Chinook in the ending cutscene.
Explosives
M67 hand grenade
The M67 hand grenade appears as the "Frag Grenade" being used by everyone, Mitchell can order his squad with the "FRAG" order to bombard the enemy with Frag Grenades.
Carl Gustav recoilless rifle
The Carl Gustav recoilless rifle appears as the "M3A2", it is used by Mitchell to destroy enemy armor.
RPG-7
The RPG-7 appears as the North Korean Rocket Launcher, it cannot be obtained as it vanishes after the user is killed.
