Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit is a 2014 espionage thriller starring Chris Pine as Jack Ryan, the CIA analyst made popular in a series of novels written by Tom Clancy and previously portrayed onscreen by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck in the feature films The Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger and The Sum of All Fears. Unlike the previous films featuring the character, this film is not adapted from a particular Tom Clancy novel, but rather is an original story with certain elements originating from the previously released works. The film was directed by Kenneth Branagh, who also portrays Viktor Cherevin in the film. This would be the last adaptation of the Ryan character until the 2018 premiere of the Amazon Prime streaming series starring John Krasinski as Ryan.
