Cecil Louis Troughton Smith (August 27, 1899 – April 2, 1966), known by his pen name Cecil Scott "C. S." Forester, was an English novelist known for numerous works of naval warfare, especially of the Age of Sail. His best known works are the 12-book Hornblower series and the 1935 novel The African Queen. Many of C. S. Forester's works were adapted on screen.
