Alpine Ballad (Alpiyskaya ballada) is a 1966 (filmed 1965) Soviet B&W war drama directed by Boris Stepanov and based on the novel by Vasil Bykov. During the WWII, a Nazi factory in the Austrian Alps where Soviet POWs work is bombed at night. Ivan Tereshka (Stanislav Lyubshin), one of the prisoners who make a break, hides in the mountains. There he meets an Italian girl Julia (Lyubov Rumyantseva) who also escaped from captivity. They spend several days in the Alps. However, the Germans overtake the fugitives, and Ivan helps Julia to escape and perishes in the battle.
