Rainbow Six
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six is a critically-acclaimed tactical first-person shooter / real-time tactics video game developed by Red Storm entertainment with the help of writer Tom Clancy. It was released in 1998 for the PC, and later (after the incredible success) ported to other platforms. It is considered the first real tactical simulator with licensed, realistic weapons, and real-life features and tactics.
The following weapons were can be seen in the video game Rainbow Six:
Usable Weapons
Secondary Weapons
Beretta 92FS
The Beretta 92FS is the standard 9mm handgun of the Rainbow team. It appears in 2 flavors- the "9mm 92FS", and the "9mm 92FS-SD", with the latter being equipped with a suppressor.
Heckler & Koch USP40
The .40 caliber Heckler & Koch USP appears as the "HK .40 USP", and has a suppressed variant known as the "HK .40 USP-SD". This is the first known game to feature the USP as a usable weapon.
The USP .40 also appears - famously - on the game box photograph in the hands of a Rainbow operator. This photograph was originally taken in 1992 for Heckler & Koch promotional material intended to support the USP’s debut on the American market the following year. The masked man holding the weapon was actually H&K USA’s then-VP for Sales and Training, John T. Meyer, Jr..([1]).
Heckler & Koch Mark 23
The Heckler & Koch Mark 23 incorrectly uses the exact same model and icon as the USP40 ingame. The only difference is that this weapon holds only 12 rounds, while the USP has a 13-round capacity. Appears as "HK .45 MARK23".
Primary Weapons
Colt Model 610 (GAU-5/A)
The GAU-5/A appears as the "CAR-15" ingame, and features an incorrect safe/semi/burst/auto trigger group. It holds 30 rounds, but is modeled with 20-round magazines. Additionally, it incorrectly uses a handguard that is the same length as the M16A2's. It is also portrayed with a shorter-than-normal flash suppressor on the icon, and the world-model doesn't seem to have one at all.
Colt M16A2
The M16A2 appears as the "M-16A2", and has an incorrect safe/semi/burst/auto trigger group, like all the automatic weapons in the game.
Heckler & Koch MP5A2
The Heckler & Koch MP5A2 appears as the "HK MP5 A2" ingame. It features a 3-round burst mode, like the A4 variant, but the selector does not have that option. It is modeled with straight magazines, but that should not be noted as a mistake, considering the game's release date; the available technology at the time meant that the weapon's model would be too high-poly for the game's engine were it to be modeled with a curved magazine.
Heckler & Koch MP5K-PDW
The Heckler & Koch MP5K-PDW appears as the "HK MP5K-PDW" in the game and can fire in semi-auto, 3-round burst, and fully automatic modes, with the second option once again being incorrect, given the ingame weapon's fire selector.
Heckler & Koch MP5SD2
Despite being called an "HK MP5SD5", this weapon is actually an MP5SD2 with a "bonus" 3-round burst mode. This is noted by the fact that it is modeled with the old S-E-F trigger group, while the real SD5 is only available with the 3-round burst trigger group. (Note that 3-round burst and Navy trigger groups are not the same. For more information about trigger groups, visit the official Heckler & Koch website). The weapon also features an ambidextrous safety, which the real S-E-F-grouped H&K weapons do not have. (This is because both sides of the gun use the same texture.)
Benelli M1 Super 90
The Benelli M1 Super 90 semi-automatic shotgun appears ingame, with an incorrect 8-shell capacity (the real M1 can only have 3-shell or 7-shell magazine tubes). It is referred to as the "Benelli M1 Tactical 12ga".
Unusable Weapons
IMI Mini Uzi
The Mini Uzi is used by enemy terrorists, and is never seen with a stock.
AK-47
The AK-47 is a terrorist-only weapon, and quite possibly the most common enemy weapon encountered.
