Red Baron, The
The Red Baron is a 2008 German film production by director Nikolai Müllerschön and is loosely based on the last Life Years of Manfred von Richthofen. The 24-year-old Baron Manfred von Richthofen (Matthias Schweighöfer) is a gifted fighter pilot in World War. All Europe fears his red-painted Fokker. He and his comrades Voss (Til Schweiger), Sternberg (Maxim Mehmet), and Lehmann (Hanno Koffler) see air duels as bold sports. Only when Richthofen falls in love with the nurse Käte (Lena Headey), he discovered the horrors of war.
The following weapons were used in the film The Red Baron:
Mauser Model 1914
The personal sidearm of Lothar (Volker Bruch) and Manfred von Richthofen (Matthias Schweighöfer) is a 1914 Mauser Pocket Pistol. In reality, he carried a Luger P08.
Smith & Wesson Schofield
Canadian Captain Roy Brown (Joseph Fiennes) is briefly seen with a nickel-plated Smith & Wesson Schofield revolver during a meeting with von Richthofen (Note: In reality, Brown and von Richthofen never met in person until April 21, 1918, where Brown pursued him in a dogfight.).
A Sturmpionier officer holds a Luger P08 before the German Spring Offensive in 1918.
M1 Garand (Mocked-Up as SMLE No. 1 Mk. III*)
ANZAC soldiers are seen with M1 Garands mocked up to resemble British Lee-Enfield No.1 Mk.III* rifles during the funeral of Capt. Clyde Walker.
Mauser Puška vz. 98/22
Some German soldiers can be seen carrying VZ-98/22 Czech Mausers standing in for accurate Gewehr 98s rifles. They are Identifiable due they have flat tangent sights instead of Lange Visiers.
German soldiers also carry anachronistic Karabiner 98ks in the movie (although they may stand for authentic Mauser 98AZ Artillery Carbines). Some of them can be seen with fixed bayonets.
Mauser Gewehr 1898
The historically accurate Mauser Gewehr 1898 is carried by German soldiers in the second half of the movie. Notably, before the Spring Offensive where they were equipped with SG 98/05 bayonets.
Lee-Enfield No. 1 Mk. III*
An actual Lee-Enfield No.1 Mk.III* is briefly seen in a British trench.
During the opening in 1906, young Richthofen (Tomás Koutník) is on the hunt with a Cape Gun, the combination double-barrel hunting shotgun/rifle, with one smoothbore and one .22 caliber rifled barrels.
12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun
Werner Voß (Til Schweiger) is seen with a 12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun.
LMG 08/15 Air machine guns are mounted on German planes.
The Sopwith F.1 Camel of Captain Roy Brown (Joseph Fiennes) is armed with two Vickers Aircraft Machine Gun.
Lewis Mk II Aircraft
The secondary weapons of British planes are air-cooled Lewis Mk II Aircraft MGs.
ZB-53 / Vz.37
Czech ZB-53 / Vz.37 are mocked up to resemble Parabellum MG14 and Maxim MG08 machine guns.
Near the end of the movie, German soldiers carry real Maxim MG08s equipped with ZF12 scopes.
Before the last great offensive of the German Empire in 1918, several Maxim MG08/15s are seen.
A Sturmpionier, a German special unit trained in construction and the demolition of fortifications, holds a Kleif M.16 before the German offensive.
Model 16/17 Stielhandgranate
German soldiers are seen with several Model 16 and Model 17 Stielhandgranates.
OSP-30 Flare Pistol
A German pilot fires an anachronistic Soviet OSP-30 Flare Pistol standing for a Hebel Flare Pistol Model 1894 or a French Model 1917.
21 cm Mörser 16
Unknown Howitzers can be seen used by German soldiers. Their look like 15-cm-schwere Feldhaubitzen 13 but the shield is mounted too far forward and the barrel has only one ring. This howitzer can be seen also in the 2011 movie War Horse.
