The film stars Philippe Noiret and Romy Schneider as husband and wife Julien and Clara Dandieu. Julien is an elderly doctor in the occupied part of France. At the end of the war, he sends his wife with their daughter to the countryside to be safe. They have no idea that their house was occupied by SS troops. Stored in wax paper, the ammunition is still usable even after many years. These appear to be anachronistic plastic shotgun shells, shotgun shells used during the 1940s or earlier would most likely be brass or paper-hulled.
