The Longest Day is the 1962 World War II film based on a novel written by Cornelius Ryan about the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944. The 3 hour film contained a cast of 42 stars including Kenneth More, Richard Todd, Richard Burton, Robert Mitchum, Sean Connery, Henry Fonda, Red Buttons, Leo Genn, Peter Lawford, Gert Frobe, John Wayne, Irina Demick, Curt Jurgens, Paul Anka, Eddie Albert, Mel Ferrer, Steve Forrest, Jeffrey Hunter, Sal Mineo, Edmond O'Brien, George Segal, Rod Steiger, Robert Wagner and Stuart Whitman. It was the most expensive black and white picture made until the release of Schindler's List (1993).

  • Directors: Ken Annakin, Bernhard Wicki, Gerd Oswald, Darryl F. Zanuck

The following weapons were used in the film The Longest Day:

LDPoster.jpg

Mauser K98k Rifle

Most of the German soldiers are equipped with Mauser K98k Rifle. In one scene, a soldier uses the bolt on the rifle to imitate the sound the "clickers" issued to the Americans make. This causes the soldier using his clicker to run out and get shot by the waiting German.

Sten MkII SMG

A Sten MkV is also briefly seen when French Commandos attempt to contact tank support.

Browning M2 Quad Mount

Browning M2 Heavy Barrel - .50 cal
Browning M2 .50cal HMG's in Quad Mount at German Defense position

Or maybe it's a 20mm flak-vierling, but I'm not sure. The .50 would be easier to get, but it would be anachronistic for Germans to be using an American machine gun.

it's an M45 Madison mount if I'm not mistaken as I'm away from my books. That is four M2HB machine guns with "Tombstone" ammunition boxes on a mechanical mount linked to one trigger for 2,000RPM.Rockwolf66 22:51, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
