Assassination (Korean title: 암살, Amsal) is a 2015 Korean historical action-drama film. Taking place around Japan-occupied Asia in 1933, the film follows a group of Korean partisans as they are hired to execute an assassination plot on a Japanese collaborator, and navigate a tangled web of conspiracies surrounding betrayals, a counter-plot, and a revelation of one of the hitmen's past.
WARNING! THIS PAGE CONTAINS SPOILERS!
The following weapons were used in the film Assassination (2015):
Pistols
1914 Mauser Pocket Pistol
Multiple characters use the 1914 Mauser Pocket Pistol throughout the film.
Colt Model 1903
Multiple members of a Japanese gang are seen using the Colt Model 1903.
FN Model 1900
A Japanese gang member is seen with an FN Model 1900.
FN Model 1910
Multiple characters throughout the film, including multiple IJA officers, use the FN Model 1910 throughout the film. The Model 1910's use by the IJA in the movie is surprisingly accurate, as IJA officers have been known to use multiple foreign pistol models, the Model 1910 included.
Luger P08
Multiple characters throughout the film use the Luger P08.
Mauser C96
Yem Sek-jin (Lee Jung-jae) uses a Mauser C96 throughout the film.
Nambu Type 14
Multiple Imperial Japan-affiliated characters are seen using the era-accurate early Nambu Type 14 throughout the film. However, the "late" model (introduced in 1936, three years after this film's setting) also anachronistically appears in the film, as evidenced by the pistol's elongated trigger guard.
Walther PPK
"Hawaii Pistol" (Ha Jung-woo) prominently uses a suppressed Walther PPK throughout the film. Unsilenced PPKs are also used by multiple characters throughout the film, as well.
Webley & Scott Metropolitan Police Model
The owner of Anemone (Kim Hae-sook) commits suicide with a Webley & Scott Metropolitan Police Model. An IJA officer is also seen with the pistol in an imagination sequence.
Unknown pistols
Multiple unknown pistols are seen throughout the film.
Revolvers
Smith & Wesson Model 10
Multiple characters throughout the film use the Smith & Wesson Model 10.
Webley .38 Mk IV
Multiple Japan-affiliated characters are seen with Webley .38 Mk IVs, most prominently with the IJA gaurds during the wedding assassination. One of the revolvers is later given to Chu Sang-ok/"Big Gun" (Cho Jin-woong) by Hawaii Pistol.
Submachine Guns
Lanchester Mk. I*
Buddy (Oh Dal-su) uses a Lanchester Mk. I* throughout the film. The submachine gun's appearance is anachronistic since it was introduced in 1941; it might be standing for the SIG Bergmann which was used by Chinese and Japanese troops at the time.
M1928 Thompson
The M1928 Thompson is used by multiple characters throughout the film, most prominently by An Ok-yun (Gianna Jun) and by Chu Sang-ok/"Big Gun" (Cho Jin-woong). Sang-ok correctly refers to the gun as a Thompson throughout the film.
M1928A1 Thompson
What appears to be an anachronistic M1928A1 Thompson is seen with one of Kim Won-bong's escorts.
Sten (mocked up as Lanchester)
Buddy's Lanchester briefly turns into a Sten (mocked up as the Lanchester using wooden furniture and a barrel shroud) when Hawaii Pistol (Ha Jung-woo) uses it in the film's climax.
Unknown submachine gun
One of Kim Koo's guards is seen with an unknown submachine gun.
Bolt-Action Rifles
Arisaka Type 38
The Imperial Japanese Army is correctly depicted using the Arisaka Type 38 throughout the film. Other characters also use the rifle throughout the film.
Mosin-Nagant M1891
An Ok-yun (Gianna Jun) uses a Mosin-Nagant M1891 for sniping throughout the film. The rifle's scope actually has two inaccuracies in the film; firstly, the PU scope doesn't support the M1891 model of the Mosin-Nagant (the scope was developed and released long after the M1891 stopped being produced), and secondly, the scope's sight is a generic cross shape instead of the PU scope's unique "T" shape.
Unknown rifles
Multiple unknown rifles are seen in a picture of Chu Sang-ok/"Big Gun" (Cho Jin-woong)
Machine Guns
Maxim M1910
An IJA machine gunner is seen manning a Maxim M1910 machine gun. This is inaccurate, due to the fact that none of the Maxim's models were ever used by the IJA.
Type 3 heavy machine gun
A Type 3 heavy machine gun is seen with an IJA machine gunner.
Grenades
Unknown round grenade
Multiple characters throughout the film use an unknown grenade.
Unknown stick grenade
Hwang Deok-sam (Choi Deok-moon) uses an unknown stick grenade throughout the film.
