The Last Men is a 2023 French movie relating the true events of a column of French legionnaires during World War II. In 1945, the Imperial Japanese army suddenly attack the French garrisons in Indochina. An isolated garrison in South Laos received the order to reach China through the jungle to avoid being annihilated by approaching enemies.

MAS Mle. 1892

Adjudant (equi. Warrant officer) Janicki's personal firearm is a Mle 1892 he uses it against Japanese soldiers during the last gunfight.

The primary weapon used by French soldiers is the Berthier Mle 1916 Carbine, including Legionnaires Trefeuil, Karlson, Lemiotte, and many others.

Berthier Mle. 1902

The Berthier Mle. 1902 is used by Legionnaire Karlson, and some other soldiers, after he left his FM 24/29 behind when he ran out of ammunition. The rifle is distinguishable from the Berthier Mle 1907-15 by a turned-down bolt handle and a shorter stock.

Lee-Metford Mk. II

Imperial Japanese soldiers are oddly armed with Lee-Metford Mk II rifles. They are probably standing in for Arisaka rifles.

The Arisaka Type 38 is seen only once in the hands of a French soldier who captured its owner.
