The Last Men is a 2023 French war film depicting the true events of a column of French legionnaires during World War II. In 1945, the Imperial Japanese Army suddenly attacks the French garrisons in Indochina. An isolated garrison in South Laos receives an order to reach China through the jungle to avoid being annihilated by approaching enemies.

Revolvers

MAS Mle. 1892

Adjudant (warrant officer) Janicki's personal firearm is a Mle 1892, which he uses against Japanese soldiers during the last gunfight.

Rifles

Fusil Modèle 1916 Carabine

The primary weapon used by French soldiers is the Berthier Mle 1916 Carbine, including Legionnaires Trefeuil, Karlson, Lemiotte, and many others.

Poussin and Sorbonne are both ready to attack the Japanese camp with their Berthiers.

Trefeuil firing at Japanese pursuers. Note the muzzle flash looks similar to one produced by an AR-15 flash hider, indicating this was likely added in post-production.

Berthier Mle. 1902

The Berthier Mle. 1902 is used by Legionnaire Karlson after he leaves his FM 24/29 behind when he runs out of ammunition, as well as some other soldiers. The rifle is distinguishable from the Berthier Mle 1907-15 by a turned-down bolt handle and a shorter stock.

Lee-Metford Mk. II

Imperial Japanese soldiers are oddly armed with Lee-Metford Mk II rifles. They are probably standing in for Arisaka rifles.

Arisaka Type 38

A genuine Arisaka, in this case the Arisaka Type 38, is seen only once in the hands of a French soldier who captured its owner.
