Darkest of Days

Darkest of Days is a first-person shooter that tells the story of Alexander Morris, a soldier fighting during Custer's Last Stand at Little Bighorn, who is suddenly dragged through time and becomes a post-22nd century agent who goes through time to find two other soldiers who are the key to the future. He travels to several different eras, including Antietam, World War 1, World War 2, and Pompeii during the Mount Vesuvius Eruption.

The following weapons appear in video game Darkest of Days:

Handguns

Colt 1860 Army

The first weapon that Morris gets to use is the Colt 1860 Army, first used at the Little Bighorn battle and later used during the Antietam Campaign. The gun's reload animation is very inaccurate as it shows Morris breaking the Colt open on a invisible hinge to swap cylinders.

Morris stands over the battle, Colt 1860 in hand.
Morris then takes aim with his Colt, hoping to hit something.
Later on, during the Battle of Antietam, Morris doesn't question why his revolver has broken in half and promptly swaps cylinders.

Mauser C96 "Broomhandle"

The Mauser C96 pistol appears during the World War 1 segments of the game. The reload animation has a very hilarious goof as it has Morris reload the C96 by jamming the stripper clip into the rear sight rather than the ejection port.

The Mauser C96 seen in-game fires fully-automatically. The era it is used in, that being 1914, was far off from the time the Mauser M712 Schnellfeuer pistol was even developed, so the fact that the gun fires fully-automatically in-game is historically inaccurate.

Morris, determined to get a hang of this new fangled technology, takes aim at a tree...
And learns how to fire the C96.
Slowly grasping how to use his new firearm, he decides to use the ironsights.
While he has gotten the grasp of how to fire it, reloading is a whole different ballgame.

Luger P08

The German Sidearm for the World War 1 and World War 2 segments is the Luger P08, specifcally the long barreled "Artillery" Model.

Morris, determined to free these prisoners, fires his Luger on the camp guards.

"DNGr Pistol"

The DNGr Pistol is a post-22nd century side-arm that Morris is given on some missions, like most of the other post-22nd century firearms.

Morris watches his comrade give a German his daily serving of buttstock while holding his DNGr.

Rifles

1860 Henry

The Henry 1860 rifle appears in the game, specifically during the Antietam missions and during the Little Bighorn segment. It is always seen with it's leaf sight raised and is inaccurately loaded from a side gate, rather than from the front of the barrel.

Morris stares at the forest in awe, Henry in hand.
Later on, Morris decides to reload his rifle in the middle of a firefight by slamming cartridges on the side of the receiver, hoping they go in.

Enfield Pattern 1853

One of the Union's many main rifles during the Civil War, the Enfield Pattern 1853 appears in the game, inaccurately called the "Springfield Musket" and is used during the Antietam missions. The gun mounts a useful bayonet and during the reload animation, Morris doesn't put a percussion cap on the nipple.

Morris and his Enfield stare off into the distance.
Fearing the trees may conspire against him, he sights up his Enfield.
Having struck fear into the trees, he starts to reload his rifle.

Morgan James Rifle

The Morgan James Rifle is used during the Antietam campaign. It's very useful for sniping, but like the Springfield Musket has a slow reload time. Also like the Springfield Musket, a percussion cap is never placed during the reload animation. The weapon also appears wrapped in burlap sacking to camouflage it.

Mauser Gewehr 1898

The mainstay arm for the German Army for World War 1, the Mauser Gewehr 1898 is seen in the hands of German troops for both World War 1 and World War 2 missions. It comes in both standard infantry versions as well as a lovely Sniper version.

A German soldier doesn't question why Morris is sighting up his crotch.
Morris stares in awe at the giant grey behemoth that floats before him.
After fleeing to safety, Morris takes aim through the misaligned sights at the floating demon that flies in the air above him.
Coming to his senses that the "demon" is nothing more than a balloon, Morris reloads his Gewehr 1898.

Morris, now within the Zeppelin, prepares to wreck havoc upon the enemy troops below with his scoped 1898.

Mosin Nagant 1891/30

The Mosin-Nagant M1891/30, or as the game calls it, the Nagant, is the Russian counterpart to the Gewehr 1898 and is found in reasonable supply during the World War 1 missions.

While Dexter talks to Morris, Morris stares at his Mosin and wonders how the bayonet is supposed to work.
Morris, having grabbed a Mosin for himself, prepares for a Russian attack in the woods.
Having found no such attack, he begrudgingly reloads his rifle.

Submachine Guns

MP-34

The Steyr MP34 submachine gun appears during the World War 2 segments in the hands of the German troops, an odd choice as the MP40 was much more prevalent. Strangely, the in-game MP34 is equipped with Trommelmagazin 08 (32rd "snail" drum magazine) from the Bergmann MP18.

"Assault Rifle-55"

One of the many futuristic weapons in the game, the Assault Rifle 55 is given to the player at random intervals, such as during the Antietam missions or during the Pompeii missions.

Morris doesn't question why he has been issued a futuristic assault rifle for a mission set during the Roman times.

"Automatic Machine Pistol-60"

A futuristic flechette rifle given to the player on random occasions, usually when he is facing enemies wielding muskets, or bronze spears and swords.

Machine Guns

Maxim Gun

The standard German machine gun seen during the World War 1 and World War 2 segments is this weird Maxim Gun hybrid. It is a mix of a MG 08's sledge mount and a Maxim M1910/30's barrel jacket.

He then decides to see if said franken-machine gun actually works.

Shotguns

"C07 Shotgun"

Another 22nd Century firearm given to Morris as "leverage",this time being a semi-auto shotgun the player gets during some of the World War 1 missions

Morris ventilates a Russian soldier's stomach with his C07.

Rocket Launchers

"MA-22 Rocket Launcher"

A futuristic rocket launcher Morris gets his hands on, which operates like a FGM-148 Javelin on steroids.

Morris unleashes the power of the MA-22 on the hapless troops below.

Flamethrowers

"FMG Heat Gun"

A futuristic flamethrower given to Morris, fittingly enough, during the Pompeii Mission.

Morris, armed with the FMG, prepares to roast some Roman troops.

Cannons

Civil War Cannon

In the Civil War missions, various cannons can be seen used by both Union and Confederate troops, and Morris does get to use one at one point.

A Confederate artillery battery commences volley fire with their cannons.
Morris prepares to unleash some Civil War era fury upon some Confederate troops with his cannon.

German Howitzer

During the World War 1 Missions, Morris can run into some unusable German Howitzers. It's unknown what type of howitzers they are, the best guess would be a Krupp type.

Morris looks at the howitzer, disappointed at the fact he can't use it himself.
