To Do List

Dropped

  • Chrono Crusade (Watched/screencaped the first 7 episodes. That was all the mediocre writing, unoriginal story and pathetic animation that I could take.)
  • Speed Grapher (No episodes screencapped. I caught a Kalashnikov, a TT-33, a M1911 and an AR-15 in the opening sequence, but I found myself unable to take the series as seriously as it wants after the attack of the amazing rubber bondage man.)

Mad Bull 34

Mad Bull 34 (1990)

One of Manga UK's early licenses, Mad Bull 34 is a four part OVA series from Magic Bus Studios that centers around two NYPD officers, John "Sleepy" Estes (a.k.a. Mad Bull) and his partner Daizaburo "Eddie" Ban, who work in the 34th Precinct. Mad Bull 34 has become infamous among English-speaking viewers for its over-the-top violence and sexual content, its "punched up" English dub (which features laughable uses of profanity and consists mostly of British actors faking New York accents) and its unflattering and inaccurate portrayal of both the NYPD and New York in general (Magic Bus thanks the 34th Precinct in the OVA's credits, though for what exactly is never specified).

The following firearms were used in the anime OVA Mad Bull 34:

M1911A1

Both "Mad Bull" as well as various criminals in the series use M1911A1 pistols.

Colt M1911A1 Pistol - .45 ACP
"Mad Bull" executes a group of serial rapists with his M1911A1.
A robber wearing a hockey mask and roller-skates (say that with a straight face) aims his M1911A1 at "Mad Bull".
Another shot of the robber's M1911A1.

Smith & Wesson Model 19

Daizaburo's service weapon is the Smith & Wesson Model 19. Another Model 19 is seen in the hands of a pair of rapists at the beginning of the first episode.

Smith & Wesson Model 19 Combat Magnum - .357 magnum
A pair of rapists threaten their victim with a Model 19. Image has been has been croped for censoring due to nudity and ugly animation.
Daizaburo aims his Model 19 at a suspect.
A closeup of Daizaburo's Model 19.

Ithaca 37

"Mad Bull" keeps an Ithaca 37 shotgun in his patrol car, which he occasionally uses to pulp the skulls of various hooligans, much to the consternation of his partner. The weapon is erroneously depicted as having a side ejection port.

Ithaca Model 37 riot version - 12 Gauge
A shot of the Ithaca 37 in "Mad Bull" and Daizaburo's patrol car.
"Mad Bull" aims his Ithaca 37 at the ski-mask wearing, roller skating robbers.
"Mad Bull" admires his handiwork. Note the ejection port on the right-hand side of the shotgun.

Remington 1866 Derringer

Several women are seen shooting Remington 1866 Derringer pistols at the "Ladies' Derringer Shooting Range".

Remington 1866 Derringer - .41 R.F. Caliber.
A group of women practice at the world's most overly-specific shooting range ever.
A range instructor shows off one of the range's 1866 Derringers.

IMI Uzi

A gang of serial rapists in episode 1 all carry IMI Uzi submachine guns under their jackets.

IMI Uzi with buttstock collapsed - 9x19mm
Daizaburo finds an Uzi on the body of a rapist.
Daizaburo (dressed in drag) shows an undercover reporter the Uzi, explaining that the suspects' plan was to gang-rape her then kill her camera crew with machine gun fire then steal and sell the their tapes of the crime on the black market. This portrayal of New York makes Taxi Driver look downright idealistic.
