Barquero is a classic 1970 American Western film directed by Gordon Douglas and starring by Lee Van Cleef as Travis and Warren Oates as Remy.

Travis, a stubborn river boatman of the border between the United States and Mexico, who is dedicated to transporting goods and people with his barge, learns that a dangerous outlaw, Jack Remy and his wild horde have just massacred and looted a town miner, stealing a complete shipment of silver and firearms.

To prevent another similar massacre, Travis transports the people of a nearby town and some settlers to the other side of the river with his barge. Remy arrives at the place so he can cross the border and escape to Mexico, but discovers that Travis took the barge and refuses to return.

Barquero was an American production that attempted to imitate certain aspects of the Spaghetti Western that were popular at the time, such as the sadistic characters, the unfriendly and rude protagonist (as opposed to the classic honorable and well-intentioned protagonist), and the over-the-top gunfights, achieving great box office success and becoming the third highest-grossing film in which Lee Van Cleef participated.

Rifles

Colt Model 1855
