Van Helsing is a 2004 American action/fantasy film written and directed by Stephen Sommers (The Mummy and G.I. Joe franchises). Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) uses a Remington 870 sawed-off and made to look like more of a wheel-lock pistol based on the shape of the stock. The gun is dressed up to look more "gothic" for the film by adding little insignias on it as well. Pump action shotguns had not been invented yet in 1888 except for the older Spencer 1882 shotgun but it can be assumed the gun is meant to be a complete invention of the church.

Carl (David Wenham) gives Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) a custom built Crossbow which automatically fires bolts from a rotating drum. The bow is said to be gas operated, but since it isn't a gun, the tank fitted in the stock is assumed to be the "gas", like a CO2 tank. Van Helsing is seen using the Crossbow to take on Dracula's (Richard Roxburgh) brides Aleera (Elena Anaya), Marishka (Josie Maran), and Verona (Silvia Colloca) when they try to attack Anna Valerious (Kate Beckinsale) during the day, using the clouds for cover. After dunking the bow in holy water at the church, he uses the bow to successfully take out Marishka.

Van Helsing is a 2004 American action/fantasy film written and directed by Stephen Sommers (The Mummy and G.I. Joe franchises). Similar to The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Van Helsing draws on a number of characters from 19th-century horror and science-fiction novels, including Bram Stoker's Abraham Van Helsing (changed to Gabriel in the film) and Count Dracula, Mary Shelley's Dr. Frankenstein and his Monster, and Robert Louis Stevenson's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Hugh Jackman stars as Van Helsing, a monster hunter for an ecumenical religious order, sent to Transylvania to help the order's Gypsy allies defeat Dracula.

The following firearms were used in the film Van Helsing:

SPOILERS.jpg WARNING! THIS PAGE CONTAINS SPOILERS!

Custom Revolvers

Gabriel Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) uses two Custom Revolvers as his sidearms. They appear to be completely fictional but bear resemblance to a Webley-Fosbery Automatic Revolver. If anyone who worked on the film has information on these props, please share it. Like many props, it is assumed they are plastic shells covering Taurus Model 85 revolvers.

Webley-Fosbery Automatic Revolver - .455 Webley, for comparison.
Gabriel Van Helsing fires his revolvers at Mr. Hyde in the church.
Note how the guns feature zig-zags in the cylinder and a tip-open hinge like a Webley-Fosbery.
Van Helsing fires his revolvers at Mr. Hyde.
When the townspeople try to disarm Van Helsing, he puts his hand on his revolver and tells them they can try. Note the ornate cross grips.
Van Helsing loads his revolvers with silver bullets when hunting down the Wolfman in the town. It is assumed that this is another prop built to load and not fire. It is confusing why it is loaded via loading gate when the gun has a tip-open action.
Van Helsing goes to draw his revolvers when he sees the Frankenstein monster in his lair.
Anna Valerious (Kate Beckinsale) uses one of Van Helsing's revolvers to shoot at the Wolfman when he finds the Frankenstein monster's lair.
Van Helsing shoots the Wolfman while he jumps through the air.

Smith & Wesson Schofield Model 3

Velkan Valerious (Will Kemp) uses a nickel Smith & Wesson Schofield Model 3 loaded with silver bullets during the scene where he and his men try to capture the Wolfman.

Smith & Wesson Schofield Model 3 - .45 Schofield
Velkan Valerious (Will Kemp) fires his Smith & Wesson Schofield at Wolfman when he is trapped in a cage.
Velkan's Schofield gets knocked out of his hand and falls to the ground.
Velkan shoots the Wolfman with his Schofield before he is bitten and knocked off the cliff.

Special

When director Stephen Sommers tries to show the crew how the Schofield should fall on the ground, the prop breaks in half.
"Some day when I do a big-budget movie, we won't have problems like this".

Wänzel M1854/67

Velkan's men use Wänzel M1854/67 Special Short Rifles to fire at the Wolfman but since the rounds aren't silver, the guns have no effect.

Velkan's men fire their Wänzel short rifles at Wolfman. God knows why they chose single-shot rifles instead of repeaters for this task.

Colt Gatling Gun

One of the men in the invention room under the church (which is curiously similar to Q's laboratory in the 007 films) is seen testing a Colt Gatling Gun with a fictional "O" drum magazine slightly resembling the real 500-round drum magazine of the Gatling, which is especially remembered for its jamming attitude. Firing a gun inside is not smart, especially in a room with all the other workers.

Colt variant of Browning M1917

A Colt version of the Browning M1917 water-cooled machine gun is seen in the church, hence the spade grips. This gun is anachronistic for 1888 by a lot.

Remington 870 (mocked up)

Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) uses a Remington 870 sawed-off and made to look like more of a wheel-lock pistol based on the shape of the stock. The gun is dressed up to look more "gothic" for the film by adding little insignias on it as well. Pump-action shotguns had not been invented yet in 1888 except for the older Spencer 1882 shotgun but it can be assumed the gun is meant to be a complete invention of the church.

Gas-Operated Automatic Crossbow

Carl (David Wenham) gives Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) a custom built Crossbow which automatically fires bolts from a rotating drum. The weapon is said to be gas operated, but since it isn't a gun, the tank fitted in the stock is assumed to be the "gas", like a CO2 tank. Van Helsing is seen using the Crossbow to fight Dracula's (Richard Roxburgh) brides Aleera (Elena Anaya), Marishka (Josie Maran), and Verona (Silvia Colloca) when they try to attack Anna Valerious (Kate Beckinsale) during the day, using the clouds for cover. After dunking the weapon in holy water at the church, he uses it to successfully take out Marishka.

Van Helsing fires a single bolt which pierces Verona's leg as she carries Anna. Even a gas-powered crossbow would have drop at such a range yet no compensation for drop is shown.

Flintlock Pistol

When Anna searches the weapons room for an intruder, she picks up a Flintlock Pistol to defend herself. When she is surprised by the Wolfman, she fires a shot in his face and runs.
