Medal of Honor: Rising Sun
Medal of Honor: Rising Sun is the fifth installment in the Medal of Honor series, released by Electronic Arts in November 2003. It is the first Medal of Honor game to take place in the Pacific Theater; and follows US Marine Joe Griffin through the Attack on Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal, Singapore, Burma, and Thailand. Unlike previous MOH installments, Rising Sun is fairly short featuring only 9 levels. A sequel was planned for Joe Griffin's brother Donnie but was quickly canceled due to Rising Sun's negative reception.
The following weapons appear in the video game Medal of Honor: Rising Sun:
Handguns
Welrod Silenced Pistol
A suppressed Welrod Pistol is used in the Singapore Sling mission. It is incorrectly shown as a single-shot weapon instead of a magazine fed pistol.
Colt M1911A1
The M1911A1 is the main sidearm for the first few missions.
Type 26 Revolver
Only seen by two Japanese officers in the 6th mission. Cannot be used by player.
Nambu Type 14th Year
Weapon used by Japanese officers in the 6th mission of the campaign. Cannot be used by player.
Submachine Guns
Thompson M1928
The M1928 Thompson is mostly seen in the first level in the Philippines.
Sten MK IIS
The suppressed Sten Mk IIS is used by the player for a few missions and is used by Major Bromley.
Type 100
Though it was originally planned to be a useable weapon in the game, the Type 100 submachine gun is only seen in the first cutscene of the final mission. When PFC Tanaka gets off the plane, the Japanese sailor on the left is holding a Type 100 while talking to the other sailor on the right who has a Type 99 LMG.
Rifles
M1 Garand
Used by the player in a few of the missions and by US Marines in the 3rd mission. It is shown as the main rifle of the Marines, even though in the real battle of the Philippines, they mainly used the 1903 Springfield as their standard weapon.
Lee-Enfield No.4 MK.I
Seen wielded by Chindit fighters, Some Guadalcanal natives and (real-life veteran) Martin Clemens. Not usable by the player.
Springfield M1903A4
Used as a sniper rifle in a few of the missions by the player.
M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle
Used only once in Campaign mode when Gunny gives you one while on the USS California at Pearl Harbor.
Arisaka Type 38
Used by Japanese soldiers in every level often with a bayonet attachment used in banzai charges. Cannot be used by player.
Shotguns
Winchester Model 1912 Riot Shotgun
The Winchester Model 1912 shotgun is Gunny's weapon of choice and eventually used by the player in further missions.
Machine Guns
Browning M2 Water Cooled
Used by the player aboard the USS California at Pearl Harbor.
Type 11 LMG
Seen many times being used by Japanese soldiers, and can be used in several missions by the player (not counting the ones that are mounted at machine gun posts).
Type 99 Light Machine Gun
Only seen and used in the final mission, first in the opening cutscene then by Japanese sailors. You eventually find one for yourself.
Type 92 Light Machine Gun (Lewis Gun)
Used when mounted on elephant (!) back in Burma , and at the end of the level "Supercarrier Sabotage", when mounted on a Japanese plane while the player is escaping.
Explosives
M9A1 Bazooka
Used only in one mission in the entire game.
Type 97 Frag Grenade
Your standard grenades as well as the Japanese's.
Lunge Mine
Used by the "Pole Miners" during the Philippines invasion.
Historically, this is quite inaccurate as the Japanese would not have been using such suicidal tactics early in the war in 1941, when they were on a seemingly unstoppable offensive in the Pacific and South East Asia. It was much later in the war (1944-1945) when they began to desperately turn to suicide tactics like the Lunge Mine, the Kamikaze raids and the human-mine.
Other
Type 99 Cannon
In some levels, the player will be attacked by Japanese A6M Zeroes which will attempt to strafe the player with their Type 99 cannons.
