Gods and Generals is the 2003 American Civil War film that depicts the Battles of Bull Run, Fredricksburg, and Chancellorsville that is a prequel to 1993's Gettysburg. Several cast members from the 1993 film returned for this prequel, including Jeff Daniels, C. Thomas Howell, and Stephen Lang (who portrays a different character in this film). Robert Duvall co-stars as General Robert E. Lee (Duvall is an actual distant relative of the Confederate general). Gods and Generals was an adaptation of the novel of the same name written by Jeff Shaara (1993's Gettysburg was based on 'The Killer Angels', written by Shaara's father, Michael).
The following weapons were used in the film Gods and Generals:
Rifles
Springfield Model 1861
US and Confederate troops carry Springfield 1861 muskets. There are several epic battle scenes showing men reloading and firing their Springfields at one another. A Springfield is used to wound Stonewall Jackson (Stephen Lang) by accidental friendly fire.
Enfield Pattern 1853
Most of the US and Confederate soldiers can be seen with Enfield 1853 muskets. Thomas Chamberlain (C. Thomas Howell) fires one in the Battle of Fredericksburg.
Springfield Model 1842
Among the Springfield 1861 and Enfield 1853 muskets the Springfield Model 1842 is also used by the US and Confederacy.
M1841 Mississippi Musket
A Confederate soldier fires a M1841 Mississippi Musket during the crossing of Union troops.
Whitworth Rifle
The Whitworth Rifle appears briefly with a scope.
Revolvers
Colt 1860 Army
Joshua Chamberlain (Jeff Daniels) carries a Colt 1860, which he wields and fires most notably in the Battle of Fredricksburg. Several officers carry Colt 1860s in their holsters.
Thomas Chamberlain (C. Thomas Howell) carries a Colt 1851, and uses it mostly at the Battle of Fredricksburg. Two of the Confederate Irish volunteers are seen firing Colt 1851s at the Union Irish volunteers at Fredricksburg. Several Confederate officers carry Colt 1851s, and keep them drawn most notably when Stonewall Jackson (Stephen Lang) is accidentally shot by his own men.
Cannon
Cannon are used in every battle scene, taking out several soldiers with each shot.
