Overview
The M1911A1 is the standard US/ARVN sidearm, with a 9-round magazine (Note that the Standard USGI M1911A1 actually has a 7-Round Magazine). In the reload animation you can see the player putting a magazine in, the slide moves forward and then he pulls the slide again. In reality he would waste one round by doing that.
+
As is series tradition, four classes are playable, which feature different weapons and gadgets designed to encourage specific tactics or battlefield roles. These are Assault, Engineer, Heavy Assault. and Recon. As with the other early Battlefield games, most shoulder-fired arms in this game have been modeled with their bolts and ejection ports on the left side of the firearm.

A 6 inch barrel Smith & Wesson Model 19, called "M-19", is the standard US Special Forces sidearm, replacing the M1911A1. It is more powerful than the other handguns, killing in one shot to the head and two to the body. Holds six rounds in its cylinder and reloads using a speedloader.

The M16A1 is used by US Army, US Marines, and ARVN Assault classes as their main rifle. A semi-auto only variant with a scope is used by all of the US factions and ARVN and is issued to the Scout as a sniper weapon. Both have 20-round mags. == Type 56 Assault Rifle ==
The M14 Rifle is the standard rifle for US Demolition Class. Holds only 10 rounds despite having a 20 round magazine and has it's bolt handle on the left.
+
The Type 56 assault rifle is the Standard NVA weapon for the Assault Class and has an under-folding bayonet that cannot be used. The NVA uses standard-stocked Type 56s (called "AK-47" in-game) while the Vietcong has the Type 56-1 mentioned below. Note that both variants lack the disassembly push-button on the rear upper end of the receiver and no post within the sight.

Type 56 Carbine
The M40 Sniper Rifle is one of three possible rifles for the Sniper Class, holds five rounds. Note how the gun is a left-handed shooter's rifle.
+
The Chinese-produced clone of the SKS, the Type 56 carbine, is used by the NVA and Việt Cộng Heavy Assault and Scout classes. Like the Type 56 assault rifles, the bayonet cannot be used and no post is present within the front sight. Due to the design of the bolt, the bolt handle has merely been relocated to the left rather than the entire bolt assembly being mirrored like on other weapons.

The Chinese SKS has a stamped receiver and a spike bayonet (aka a "pig sticker") much like the Type 56 assault rifle. This version, like many imported SKS rifles, have the infamous 'orange cratewood' stocks, probably the lowest quality wood in any mass produced rifle, save for the last ditch Arisaka Type 99  rifles at the end of WW2. The M60 machine gun is perhaps the most infamous weapon in the game due to a well-known early balance issue; the release version of the game featured a US kit with the M60 and LAW, with the M60 extremely damaging (you pointed it at people and they died) and accurate enough to be used for sniping. This essentially meant games boiled to to re-enactments of Rambo: First Blood Part 2, only with the same number of John Rambos as Vietnamese. This was quickly addressed in patches; the M60 was placed in a kit with the M79 rather than the much more powerful LAW, and both machine guns were made drasically less accurate.

Battlefield: Vietnam is a 2004 first-person shooter and the second game in the Battlefield series. As the name suggests, it is set during the Vietnam War, with players controlling either the US Army, US Marines, US Special Forces, and Army of the Republic of Vietnam against the North Vietnamese Army and Việt Cộng.

The following weapons appear in the video game Battlefield: Vietnam:

Overview

As is series tradition, four classes are playable, which feature different weapons and gadgets designed to encourage specific tactics or battlefield roles. These are Assault, Engineer, Heavy Assault. and Recon. As with the other early Battlefield games, most shoulder-fired arms in this game have been modeled with their bolts and ejection ports on the left side of the firearm.

Handguns

M1911A1

The M1911A1, called "M1911" in-game, is the standard US/ARVN sidearm, with a 9-round magazine (note that the standard USGI M1911A1 actually has a 7-round magazine). The reload animation has the player character putting a magazine in, the slide moving forward, and then the slide is pulled again. In reality, this would waste a round by ejecting a chambered round.

Smith & Wesson Model 19

A 6 inch barrel Smith & Wesson Model 19, called "M-19", is the standard US Special Forces sidearm, replacing the M1911A1. It is more powerful than the other handguns, killing in one shot to the head and two to the body. Holds six rounds in its cylinder and reloads using a speedloader.

Norinco Model 54

The Norinco Type 54, a Chinese copy of the Tokarev TT-33 with a frame-mounted safety, is the standard NVA/VC sidearm. The magazine holds 8 rounds of 7.62x25mm Tokarev.

Submachine Guns

MAT-49

The MAT-49 is the only submachine gun in the game and is used by NVA and VC Engineers. It is also the only infantry weapon to have a correct bolt and ejection port location.

Assault Rifles

Colt M16A1

The M16A1 is used by US Army, US Marines, and ARVN Assault classes as their main rifle. A semi-auto only variant with a scope is used by all of the US factions and ARVN and is issued to the Scout as a sniper weapon. Both have 20-round mags. The scoped variant has a suppressor in the menu and shots from it sound suppressed, but no visible suppressor is present on the in-game model.

Colt XM177E2

The XM177E2, called "CAR-15" in-game, is used by the Assault classes of the ARVN and US Special Forces and is loaded with a 30-round STANAG magazine. A version with an attached XM148 grenade launcher is used by US Special Forces as an alternative to the CAR-15.

Type 56 Assault Rifle

The Type 56 assault rifle is the Standard NVA weapon for the Assault Class and has an under-folding bayonet that cannot be used. The NVA uses standard-stocked Type 56s (called "AK-47" in-game) while the Vietcong has the Type 56-1 mentioned below. Note that both variants lack the disassembly push-button on the rear upper end of the receiver and no post within the sight.

Type 56-1

The Việt Cộng use the Type 56-1 as the standard weapon for the VC Assault class. It is incorrectly called the "AKMS" in-game.

Rifles

M14

The M14 is used by the Engineers and Heavy Assault of the ARVN and all US forces. Holds only 10 rounds despite being modeled with 20-round magazine.

M21

The Springfield Armory M21 is a choice for the ARVN and US Army Scout class. Stat wise, it is similar to the M14 (including the 10-round magazine modeled after a 20-rounder) except it has a scope and is more accurate. Unlike the other sniper rifles, it comes with only a single reserve magazine, for a total of 20 rounds.

Type 56 Carbine

The Chinese-produced clone of the SKS, the Type 56 carbine, is used by the NVA and Việt Cộng Heavy Assault and Scout classes. Like the Type 56 assault rifles, the bayonet cannot be used and no post is present within the front sight. Due to the design of the bolt, the bolt handle has merely been relocated to the left rather than the entire bolt assembly being mirrored like on other weapons.

Sniper Rifles

SVD

The SVD is one of two NVA sniper weapons and once again, it has an empty front sight and incorrect bolt location.

Mosin-Nagant M1891/30 Sniper

The Mosin Nagant M1891/30 Sniper Rifle is used by Việt Cộng Scouts. Like the Type 56 carbine, its bolt handle has been relocated to the left.

Shotguns

Mossberg 500

One of two US Army and US Marines Assault-class weapons, the Mossberg 500 is available with a sawed-off pistol grip and heat shield. It holds six shells in its magazine.

Machine Guns

M60

The M60 is issued to the ARVN and all US factions Heavy Assault. It is is perhaps the most infamous weapon in the game due to a well-known early balance issue; the release version of the game featured a US kit with the M60 and LAW, with the M60 extremely damaging (you pointed it at people and they died) and accurate enough to be used for sniping. This essentially meant games boiled to to re-enactments of Rambo: First Blood Part 2, only with the same number of John Rambos as Vietnamese. This was quickly addressed in patches; the M60 was placed in a kit with the M79 rather than the much more powerful LAW, and both machine guns were made drastically less accurate, unless used while prone.

Type 53

The Việt Cộng infantry machine gun issued to the Assault class is the Type 53.

RPD

The RPD is the standard NVA machine gun issued to the Assault class. It performs the same way as the M60, and is only really effective while lying prone.
