Wild Target (2010)

Wild Target is a 2010 British remake of the 1993 French film "Cible Emouvante" (starring Jean Rochefort). Bill Nighy stars as Victor Maynard, a world weary assassin, who has second thoughts about his assignment to eliminate a con artist, Rose (Emily Blunt) and he ends up being enamored by her free spirit and wild ways. Upon his refusal to carry out his assignment, Victor now must protect her from other hired guns who have been sent to finish the job. Meanwhile Victor, not having an heir and coming from a long line of assassins, tries to train an inept protege, Tony (Rupert Grint, better known as Ron Weasley from the Harry Potter films), and prepare him for the world of hired killers.

The following guns were used in the film Wild Target:

Beretta 92FS

A Beretta 92FS is used by Victor Maynard (Bill Nighy) in several hits. The pistol he uses has an extended barrel (sometimes) and an ornate laser/light attachment to the front rail. His mother Louisa (Eileen Atkins) calls the Beretta the "Pistol of Princes," reminding Victor that she gave him one for his seventh birthday.

Being a comedy, Victor holds his guns like he holds cups of tea (not only done intentionally for comedic effect, but Nighy has a medical condition called Dupuytren's contracture, which makes him unable to straighten the last two fingers of his hand)

While trying to train Tony, Victor Maynard (Bill Nighy) disassembles and reassembles his Beretta blindfolded in seconds. Again, note Victor's trademark comedic grasp of the weapon.

Tony (Rupert Grint) ineptly tries to mimic Victor, and the slide, spring and Op rod go flying across the room, hitting Victor in the head.

Heckler and Koch USP

Dixon (Martin Freeman) uses a suppressed Heckler and Koch USP as his sidearm throughout the movie.

Smith & Wesson 686

Though at first glance it may resemble the Smith & Wesson Model 681 as used prominently in Snatch, this has adjustable rear sights and a different front sight, indicating that it is a Smith & Wesson Model 686.

Taurus PT92AFS

New model Taurus PT92AFS (Stainless with fixed rear sights) are seen used both by Ferguson's bodyguard Mike (Gregor Fisher) and Tony (Rupert Grint).

Mauser C96 "Broomhandle"

Rose (Emily Blunt) wields Victor's father's Mauser Broomhandle. Dixon (Martin Freeman) aims the Mauser in the climax.

Heckler & Koch MP5A3

Victor Maynard (Bill Nighy) uses an Heckler & Koch MP5A3 as his preferred 'sniper' weapon. Using a submachine gun as a sniping weapon is an unusual choice, since Submachine guns are built and designed specifically for CQB. If he wanted a 'sub rifle caliber' autoloading weapon, there are many other choices which would be more suitable.

In the film, Victor uses a 15 round 'short' magazine for the MP5. Notice the markings on the trigger assembly. U-J-R?

Heckler & Koch MP5A5 Navy Lower

Later in the film, Victor uses an MP5A5, as does his mother, Louisa (Eileen Atkins).

12 gauge Double-Barreled Shotgun

Victor's mother, Louisa Maynard (Eileen Atkins) uses and holds a double barreled shotgun, most likely one of the many boutique side by sides that are common in the U.K.

Looks like fun. I'll have to rent it when it comes out on DVD. Or when I find it on DVD. --Jcordell 00:35, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

  • It is fun. I just saw it at the cinema tonight; it was well cast and had a few laughs (but then again I was the only one in the cinema laughing during 'The American'). I hope the author finishes the article as there's a Mauser Broomhandle and sawed off shotgun in there as well.Foofbun 07:19, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Well considering that it isn't OUT YET on DVD in the U.S. and we can't screencap it (the screencaps are from the trailer), please feel free to update the info on the page yourself since you've actually seen the movie. We can wait until someone gets the DVD to screencap.MoviePropMaster2008 04:22, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

MP5 selector

So they have a continuity error when they use an insert shot of Victor flicking off the safety on his MP5, it's hardly new. But, I did notice that the burst and full auto options are partially obscured. You can clearly see them, yet it looks like they've been painted over. Does H&K cut corners on their semi-auto MP5s this way? --Funkychinaman (talk) 05:21, 26 May 2014 (EDT)

The burst and full auto options appear to have been scratched out.
Pretty sure it's just badly faded, which, combined with the lighting, makes it look painted over. I've seen some 4-position MP5 lowers where the paint was almost gone and you could barely see the selector markings. I'm guessing that at one point in production of Navy lower receivers, H&K used some type of paint that was crap, but I don't know the whole story. -MT2008 (talk) 11:28, 26 May 2014 (EDT)
Is it flipped as well? From the images we have, it looks like the selector is only on the left. --Funkychinaman (talk) 11:43, 26 May 2014 (EDT)
No it isn't flipped, you can just make out the magazine release button which is on the right side of the magazine well hence making this correct. Also, FYI the Navy/burst trigger packs are ambidextrous, I guess he is just using the right side for better framing of the shot as the left side would be facing his body so harder to show being manipulated. Also, based on the fact that this is just an insert shot of otherwise SEF lowered MP5s, I would guess that it is an airsoft which might use crappier paint (I think I even remember seeing some that don't have paint in the engravings so would look like this). That being said, it does look like the burst marking has been scribbled over with a Sharpie or something. --commando552 (talk) 13:13, 26 May 2014 (EDT)
