Brazil is a 1985 British black comedy satirical science fiction film directed by Terry Gilliam. Described as a satire of bureaucracy, technocracy, consumerism, mass surveillance, and corporatism, the film is noted for its set design, depicting a dysfunctional dystopian world reliant on broken down and overly-complex technology.
Set "Somewhere In The 20th Century", the film follows Sam Lowry (Jonathan Pryce), a lowly bureaucrat frustrated with with his mind-numbing job as part of the vast, byzantine, massively inefficient bureaucracy. When he becomes infatuated with a mysterious woman, Sam goes to great lengths to be with her, fighting through every obstacle the bureaucracy puts in front of him (intentionally or otherwise).
