|
The following weapons were used in the film The Wind That Shakes The Barley:
Pistols
Mauser C96
The Mauser C96 can be seen in several scenes used by IRA members - the Mauser was a popular sidearm among IRA members, who referred to it as the "Peter the Painter automatic", after a famous anarchist who allegedly carried one.
FN Model 1910
An IRA member can be seen with a FN Model 1910 during the pub scene, though it is never fired.
Revolvers
Webley Mk. IV
Damien (Cillian Murphy) carries a Webley .455 Mk IV revolver throughout the film.
Webley Mk. VI
The Webley .455 Mk VI is the most commonly seen revolver in the film, carried by British officers, Black and Tans, Auxiliaries, and several IRA members including Teddy (Padraic Delaney).
Smith & Wesson Mk. II Hand Ejector
Dan (Liam Cunningham) carries a Smith & Wesson Mk II Hand Ejector.
Colt Official Police
The Colt Official Police is carried by some IRA members.
Colt New Service
Colt New Service is carried by some IRA members - it's impossible to tell from the film, but it is most likely a British army-issued revolver in .455 Webley.
Rifles
Lee Enfield No. 1 Mk. III*
The Lee Enfield SMLE No. 1 Mk. III* is the standard rifle of the British army, Black & Tans, Auxiliaries, and later the Free State's National Army. It is also the most commonly used rifle by the IRA.
Mauser Gewehr 1898
Mauser Gewehr 1898 rifles are used by IRA members throughout the film, most notably by the training officer at the beginning of the film.
Mauser Karabiner 98AZ
Damien (Cillian Murphy) carries a Mauser 98AZ Artillery Carbine throughout the film.
Mauser Karabiner 98k
A Mauser Karabiner 98k is seen in several scenes in the film - an anachronism as the 98K was not introduced until 1935, and the film is set in 1920-1922. It is possible that the armorer did not have access to enough First World War Mausers.
Machine Guns
Vickers Mk. I
A Vickers Gun is seen mounted on a truck driven by Auxiliaries.
Lewis Gun
The Lewis Gun is carried by the IRA flying column in their ambush of Auxiliaries.
Trivia
Hurling Stick
True to life, many IRA soldiers are seen training using hurling sticks as dummy rifles for lack of the real thing.
