The Last Men (orginial title : Les Derniers Hommes) is a 2023 French movie relating true events of a column of French legionnaires during the World War II. In 1945, the Imperial Japanese army suddently attack the French garnisons in Indochina. A isolated garnison in South Laos receipt the order to reach China through jungle to avoid to be annihilated by approaching enemies.

Captain Aubrac Arnaud Churin quickdraw a Ruby pistol and fire a warning shot at « Lemiotte » when he wants start a mutiny.

During the ambush a Japanese is seen firing what it appears to be a Nambu Type 14 pistol. But there is no closer view of the action.

Fusil Modèle 1916 Carabine

The primary weapon used by French soldiers is the Berthier Mle 1916 Carbine, including Legionnaires Trefeuil, Karlson, Lemiotte and many others.

Berthier Mle. 1902

The Berthier Mle. 1902 is used by Legionnaire Karlson, and some other soldiers, after he left his FM 24/29 behind when he ran out of ammunition. The rifle is distinguishable of Berthier Mle 1907-15 by a turned-down bolt handle and a shorter stock.

Imperial Japanese soldiers are oddly armed with Lee-Metford Mk II rifles. Probably standing for Arisaka rifles.

The Arisaka Type 38 is clearly seen just once and only in hands of a French soldier whose captured his owner.
