ROKA Soldiers using US weapons

I know ROKA don't use Berettas and M16s, but could these soldiers actually be KATUSAs (Korean Augmentation To the US Army)? KATUSA soldiers are still ROK Army soldiers but under US command and uses US equipment. That would explain the US weapons as well as the equipment (such as the PASGT helmets which was not used by the ROKA).

I read on Wikipedia that JSA's Joint Security Force was originally US Army and all the Korean Contingent were actually KATUSA, don't know if that's still the case, but it would certainly explained the Korean soldiers with US equipment.--Wildcards 13:50, 21 September 2011 (CDT)

I don't think they would be KATUSAs since the units depicted in the film were entirely South Korean with no Americans in sight, except for the scenes at Panmunjom, whereas KATUSAs are individually assigned soldiers to U.S. Army units. It's also doubtful that was the director's intent since that would detract from the emphasis on the soldiers from the North and the South being two sides of the same coin. --Markit 23:24, 21 September 2011 (CDT)
I don't think the use of American military small arms by ROK soldiers in this movie has anything to do with availability of South Korean weapons, as it says on the page. If that were true, then the Daewoo K3 in this movie would be a genuine M249 SAW. Plus, our site documents use of Daewoo weapons in many other South Korean productions. I am guessing that the real reason that the ROK forces carry American weapons is simply because the director or someone else insisted upon it, perhaps even against the wishes of the movie's armorer. -MT2008 (talk) 15:19, 27 September 2012 (EDT)
