Richard O. Fleischer (December 8, 1916 – March 25, 2006) was an American film director. He started with noir thrillers in 1940s and got the Academy Award for Best Feature Documentary in 1947 for Design for Death. Fleischer gained popularity after the great success of Disney's 20000 Leagues Under the Sea. Later Fleischer directed numerous big features, including war movies (Tora! Tora! Tora!), historical action films (Barabbas, The Vikings), science fiction (Fantastic Voyage) and fantasy (Conan the Destroyer, Red Sonja) movies.
