Franchi LF-57
The Franchi LF-57 is an Italian submachine gun designed by Franchi, the first and so far only submachine gun manufactured by the company. Introduced in 1957, it is a simple weapon made almost entirely of stamped steel and operates via simple blowback. Most of the bolt is located above the barrel, with the barrel itself being held in place by only a single nut. The heavy bolt assembly gives the weapon a low, controllable rate of fire of 460 rounds per minute and relatively low felt recoil. A semi-automatic only variant with a longer barrel known as the "police model" was introduced later in its production life.
In its home country, only the Italian Navy adopted the LF-57 in significant numbers. The SMG had to compete with the likes of the IMI Uzi and Beretta M12 internationally and did not see much success in sales. Outside of Italy, it was sold to a number of African nations such as Zaire, Angola, and Nigeria.
