The issued sidearm of USSS agent Thomas Barnes (Dennis Quaid) is a SIG-Sauer P229 pistol chambered in 9x19mm, instead of the correct .357 SIG ammunition chambered for the real life USSS SIG pistols.

The majority of the Secret Service Agents in the film including Thomas Barnes (Dennis Quaid) carry the SIG-Sauer P229 as their standard sidearms. Though the Secret Service chambers their SIG Sauer P229s for the .357 SIG round, the P229s used in the movie are chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum. There is also a continuity error when Dennis Quaid is seen firing over twenty rounds before reloading. The gun only holds 13 rounds; 12 in the magazine, and 1 in the chamber.

Vantage Point (2008)
 • 'Vantage Point' is a 2008 action thriller focusing on an assassination attempt on the President of the United States Henry Ashton (William Hurt) as he promotes a treaty to fight international terrorism in Salamanca, Spain told from the different view points of Global News Network producer Rex Brooks (Sigourney Weaver), United States Secret Service Agents Thomas Barnes (Dennis Quaid) and Kent Taylor (Matthew Fox), video camera owner Howard Lewis (Forest Whitaker), Spanish police officer Enrique (Eduardo Noriega), deadly terrorists Suarez (Said Taghmaoui) and Veronica (Ayelet Zurer), and blackmailed former special forces member Javier (Edgar Ramirez). Due to principle filming being done in Mexico City, some of the firearms in the film (notably the Beretta 92FS pisols) are reproduction blank replicas instead of blank converted registered firearms, likely due to lack of availability.

SIG-Sauer P229

The issued sidearm of USSS agent Thomas Barnes (Dennis Quaid) is a SIG-Sauer P229 pistol chambered in 9x19mm, instead of the correct .357 SIG ammunition chambered for the real life USSS SIG pistols.

SIG-Sauer P229 - .357 SIG with Crimson Trace laser grips.
An assassin attempts to gun down President Henry Ashton (John Hurt) with a SIG-Sauer P229 before Agent Barnes jumps in front of him.
Agent Barnes checks the load in his SIG-Sauer P229 pistol.
Note how the magazine is loaded with 9mm bullets instead of .357 SIG.
A USSS agent disguised as a cleaning lady drops her SIG-Sauer P229 when gunned down by Javier (Edgar Ramirez).
Agent Barnes fires his SIG-Sauer P229 while pursuing a vehicle on foot.
Even though the magazine capacity is twelve plus one rounds, Barnes manages to fire off 20+ rounds without reloading.
A production still of Barnes running up to the crashed vehicle with his SIG-Sauer P229 in hand.
Barnes holds his SIG-Sauer P229 on Agent Taylor as he expires.
Barnes searches the crashed ambulance for the President with his SIG-Sauer P229 at the ready.

At one point in the film we see a USSS agent using the newer SIG-Sauer P229R (with a rail on the frame nose) while pursuing Enrique (Eduardo Noriega).

SIG-Sauer P229R - 9mm.
The USSS agent pursues Enrique with his SIG-Sauer P229R at the ready. Due to continuity error, it changes from a Bruni 8mm Beretta replica.
The agent holds his SIG-Sauer P229 on a citizen. Note the rail.

Beretta 92FS

The majority of the terrorists and covert operatives in the film carry the Beretta 92FS. Those who use it include Javier (Edgar Ramirez) during the police car scene; the Spanish policeman; female terrorist Veronica (Ayelet Zurer) and the terrorist head Suarez (Saïd Taghmaoui). Continuity errors with these pistols occur in several scenes when the gun is "fired" and then immediately shown with the hammer forward. While the USSS agents usually carry SIG P229's, Agent Kent Taylor (Matthew Fox) is seen only using the Beretta.

Glock 17

A Glock 17 is used by the former special forces soldier Javier (Edgar Ramirez) who kidnaps the real President. The one shown in the film features a stainless steel slide and a suppressor.

Heckler & Koch PSG-1

A Heckler & Koch PSG-1, mounted on an automated platform, is used by the terrorists to conduct the initial attack on the President. The PSG-1's distinctive wooden grip is featured during the scene when agent Taylor disassembles it.

Remington 700PSS

The Remington 700PSS rifle appears in the hands of Secret Service snipers in the film, fitted with folding bipods. A few rifles actually may be M40's, but most of the close-up shots use R700's.
