The Smith & Wesson 5904

Is the Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol used by Duane Barry in S2E05 really a 5904? When CCH Pounder's character is talking about the gun, she says it has a "9-round magazine". Granted, that could be a script/dialogue error, but if you look at the first picture of him holding the gun, it seems to have a single-stack frame rather than double-stack, as a 5904 would have. Wouldn't that make it another variant? (not sure which; I checked the Smith & Wesson pistols page and couldn't find a match for that frame/sight/trigger guard style) -MT2008 (talk) 19:00, 16 August 2014 (EDT)

Pretty sure it is a 3904. We so far only have listings for the compact single stack 3rd gen Smiths, but this full length one did briefly exist. It was made from 1988 to 1991, had either 2nd gen type fixed sights or the winged adjustable ones, and there was also the 3906 (stainless version) available. I believe that initially it came with an 8 round magazine, but it was a weird mag that had a load of extra space in it so it could be easily adapted to accept 9 and ones made by other companies held 9 (I think this was due to the fact that the 3rd gen mags were longer, but they just kept to capacity the same to make it a like for like replacement for the 2nd gen single stacks for whatever reason). I think if it was offered today people would want it, but at the time it was in the middle of the wonder-nine craze so there was no demand for it. --commando552 (talk) 19:10, 21 August 2014 (EDT)
Found a decent pic, looks like a match:

How do you think we should list it? Put it on a page by itself, or create a 3900 series page like the other 3rd gens and role the current 3913 page into this? --commando552 (talk) 19:19, 21 August 2014 (EDT)
Whoa, interesting find here. Makes sense though, as it did look a bit off from a 5904, so thanks, good to be accurate of course. Anyway, I vote for making a 3900 series page as we have done with the other S&W autos. StanTheMan (talk) 22:21, 21 August 2014 (EDT)
Nice job, Commando! That's been bugging me since the page went up. Aside from Another Stakeout, I suspect that gun was also in at least one episode of The Sentinel, which had the same armorers as this show. -MT2008 (talk) 22:37, 21 August 2014 (EDT)
I think the one in the episode of The Sentinel "Nigh Train" is a 3904, but the one in "The Debt" isn't, as the 3904 wasn't around long enough to be produced with the rounded trigger guard. The sights are wrong for a 5904 though, as I think that when they changed the shape of the trigger guard they also changed the design of the fixed sights to the Novak type ones. I imagine that the one in Another Stakeout is also this gun, as I can't see the hooked trigger guard in either of the caps, and with those sights it is a match for the gun used in the "The Debt" episode of The Sentinel. My guess for this gun would be the budget Smith & Wesson 915, as this has matching frame (actually a double stack, but lacks the lightening machining at the front so looks like a single stack), trigger guard, and is a 3rd gen design so the barrel bushing matches:
Smith & Wesson 915 - 9x19mm
The real clincher would be if there was a clear shot of the right side of the slide as the 3904 has an ambi safety/decocker whilst the 915 doesn't, however with both appearances the only shots showing the right side are too dark/blurry to be 100% sure. --commando552 (talk) 11:13, 22 August 2014 (EDT)

Original Page Content

The following firearms were used in Season Two of the television series "The X-Files."

Pistols

Colt M1911A1 pistol

Seen in the episode "Sleepless" (Episode 2.04).

World War 2 issued Colt M1911A1 Pistol - .45 ACP.

SIG-Sauer P226

In Season 2, Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) started using a SIG-Sauer P226. This weapon first appeared in the Season 2 premier "Little Green Men", when Mulder tried in vain to shoot an alien with his newly-issued P226 (despite SIGs' "Hell and Back" reliability, firearms do not function when UFOs are around in The X-Files). Following this episode, Mulder carried the P226 for the entirety of the show, with the exception of Season 3, when he and Scully both used Smith & Wesson 5906s.

SIG-Sauer P228

Beginning with Season 2, Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) started using a SIG-Sauer P228, which subsequently became her sidearm for the entire show (Season 3 notwithstanding, when she and Mulder both used Smith & Wesson 5906s). Alex Krycek (Nicholas Lea), Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) and some of the other FBI Agents on the show also used the P228. Scully used a P228 from episode 2.03 "Blood" until episode 3.01 "The Blessing Way", and then again from episode 6.01 "The Beginning".

2.17 "End Game": Beginning with Season 2, Scully started using a SIG-Sauer P228.

SIG-Sauer P229

Mr. X (Steven Williams) carries a SIG-Sauer P229, identifying it explicitly in episode 2.08 "One Breath" as a "high-capacity compact SIG-Sauer .40-caliber weapon." Although the P229 strongly resembles the SIG-Sauer P228 carried by Scully and several other characters, the P228 is only available in 9.19mm, not .40-caliber.

Smith & Wesson 5904

In the Season 2 episode "Duane Barry", Duane Barry (Steve Railsback) carries a Smith & Wesson 5904 that he took from a guard at the mental institute.

Submachine Guns

Calico M955A

In the first episode of Season 2, "Little Green Men", Mulder and Scully were chased away from the Arecibo radio telescope site in Puerto Rico by a Blue Beret Crash Retrieval Unit. The Blue Berets were armed with a number of weapons that were considered "futuristic" back in the mid-1990s when the episode was made, including a Steyr AUG, a Calico M955A with a laser sight, and at least two Mossberg 500 Bullpup shotguns. The leader of the team used another airsoft MP5 (see above).

Rifles

M16A1 rifle

The M16A1 rifle was used on a regular basis throughout The X-Files as either a military and/or SWAT weapon. For example, M16A1 rifles can be seen in the Season 2 episode "Sleepless" (Episode 2.04).

Unknown/Other Bolt-Action Rifles

Several other bolt-action rifles are seen in Season 2, primarily tactical sniper rifles wielded by police and government officers.
