Sonny Bono was an American musician, actor and politician, most famous for being the part of the singing duo "Sonny and Cher", which he appeared with his then-wife Cher and co-starred in the variety television series The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour and The Sonny and Cher Show in the 1970s. He was elected to represent California's 44th District in the US House of Representatives in 1994 and held the office until his death in a skiing accident in 1998.
