Smallville was an American television sci-fi drama that was an unusual adaptation of the DC Comics character of Superman. The series followed a teenage Clark Kent (Tom Welling) living in his adopted town of Smallville and slowly discovering his true identity. Unlike other versions of the character, Clark never actually was seen becoming the iconic Superman (until the final episode of the series). The series aired for 10 seasons from 2001 to 2011 on the WB network, which eventually become the CW. In 2019, it was announced that Smallville would be retroactively canonized into the CW's Arrowverse, with Tom Welling and Erica Durance reprising their roles as Clark Kent and Lois Lane in that year's crossover event, Crisis on Infinite Earths.
