Richard III (1995)

Richard III is the 1995 film adaptation of the Shakespeare play starring Ian McKellen as the title character. It was directed by Richard Loncraine and co-stars Annette Bening, Kristin Scott Thomas, Jim Broadbent, Robert Downey, Jr, and Nigel Hawthorne. Though the story remains faithful to Shakespeare's play about the ambitious and twisted Richard of Gloucester, the film updates the setting to an alternate 1930's Britain as Richard's evil plans to gain control of the English throne paralleled the rise of facism in Germany and Italy under the rule of Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini, respectively. In keeping with the period of the film, the majority of the weapons and vehicles seen are somewhat consistent with the actual time period in history. The same interpretation was used in a successful stage version, on which the film was based and which also starred McKellen.

The following weapons were used in the film Richard III:

Pistols

Mauser C96

In both the opening and closing scenes, Richard of Gloucester's (Ian McKellen) weapon of choice is a "Broomhandle" Mauser pistol.
