NCIS: Los Angeles is the first television spinoff of NCIS. The series stars Chris O'Donnell and L.L. Cool J as NCIS agents who work out of the service's Office of Special Projects that is based in the city of Los Angeles. The majority of the characters in the series were introduced during Season 6 of NCIS in a two-part episode titled "Legend, Parts I & II". The series premiered in North America in September of 2009. NCIS: Los Angeles also exists in the same universe as Hawaii Five-O, as several characters have appeared in a Season 3 crossover episode.
