Crossfire Trail is a 2001 made for TV Western movie directed by Simon Wincer and starring Tom Selleck, Virginia Madsen, and Wilford Brimley. The plot is based on the 1954 novel by Louis L'Amour. Rafe Covington (Selleck) swears an oath to his dying friend to look after the latter's wife Anne (Madsen) who lives on a Wyoming ranch. Upon visiting the ranch, Covington finds out that local wealthy businessman desires both the ranch and the woman.

Revolvers

Smith and Wesson Schofield

Rafe Covington's (Tom Selleck) main sidearm is a Smith and Wesson Schofield revolver. He mostly carries this weapon in the first half of the film, but uses it along with his 1872 Colt in the final gunbattle.

Colt 1872 Open Top

Another revolver that Rafe Covington (Tom Selleck) uses is a Colt 1872 Open Top with ivory grips that he forcibly takes from the captain of schooner Medusa Challenger Gorgan (Mark Achenson). Rafe carries this revolver mostly for the second half of the movie in a crossdraw holster, and uses it in the final gunbattle as well. According to the May 2002 issue of the NRA's publication American Rifleman, the revolver was built from parts for Tom Selleck by Ken Howell of R&D Gun Shop. Mr. Howell also provided custom firearms for Selleck in 1997's Last Stand at Saber River and Monte Walsh.

Single Action Army "Civilian" Model

Single Action Army "Civilian" Model revolvers are used by a number of characters throughout the movie. Snake Corville (Marshall R. Teague) keeps an ivory handled "Civilian" SAA in a crossdraw holster; his revolver is supposed to be an Uberti 1873 Cattleman replica. Beau Dorn (Brad Johnson) carries a "Civilian" revolver in a shoulder holster as a backup to his Remington 1875 and dual-wields both revolvers in the final shootout. "Civilian" revolvers are also used by Mike Taggart (Patrick Kilpatrick) and Gene Thompson (Ken Pogue).

Bruce Barkow (Mark Harmon) carries a Single Action Army "Civilian" Model revolver with Bird's Head grip concealed in a shoulder holster. Supposedly this revolver is also an Uberti replica.

Single Action Army "Artillery" Model

Single Action Army "Artillery" Model revolvers are used by Rock Mullaney (David O'Hara), Joe Gill (Wilford Brimley) and J.T. Langston (Christian Kane). Most if not all of these revolvers are supposed to be Uberti replicas.

For the most of the movie, Rock Mullaney (David O'Hara) is armed by a Single Action Army "Cavalry" Model revolver. A "Cavalry" revolver is also briefly held by Luke Taggart (Rex Linn).

Remington 1875

Beau Dorn (Brad Johnson), the bounty hunter, uses a nickel-plated Remington 1875 revolver as his main sidearm. He dual-wields his Single Action Army "Civilian" Model and nickel-plated Remington 1875 revolvers while searching for Rafe.

Remington 1875 (short-barreled)

A short-barreled Remington 1875 revolver is one of two handguns that Gene Thompson (Ken Pogue) takes from his store during the final shootout. This revolver may be a Cimarron 1875 "Outlaw" or an Uberti 1875 "Frontier" replicas.

Gene Thompson takes a short-barreled Remington 1875 and a "Cavalry" Single Action Army revolvers. When used in action, these guns switch to a "Civilian" and an "Artillery" SAA revolvers due to a continuity error.

Rifles

Winchester Model 1866 "Yellow Boy" Carbine

The general store owner, Gene Thompson (Ken Pogue) brings a Winchester Model 1866 "Yellow Boy" carbine for the final gunbattle. He uses the carbine himself, and then it falls in hands of Rock Mullaney (David O'Hara).

A Winchester Model 1866 "Yellow Boy" rifle is used by Snake Corville (Marshall R. Teague) when he attempts to snipe Rafe Covington from a rooftop. Luke Taggart (Rex Linn) is armed with a Winchester 1866 rifle during the final shootout.

The Winchester Model 1873 carbines are used by J.T. Langston (Christian Kane), Joe Gill (Wilford Brimley) and several villains.

Winchester Model 1873 Rifle

In one scene a Henry 1860 rifle of the Sioux warrior Bear Killer (Glen Gould) switches to a Winchester Model 1873 Short Rifle due to a continuity error. The rifle is seen very briefly, and there is possibility that this is a mockup gun, like the one listed just below.

Winchester Model 1873 Rifle (mockup)

During the final shootout, Joe Gill's (Wilford Brimley) Winchester Model 1873 carbine switches to a 1873 rifle that turn out to be a mockup.

Joe's rifle falls on the ground which is probably a reason of replacing of the real gun with a mockup.

Winchester 1876 Centennial

Charles Rodney ordered a Winchester Model 1876 full-stocked carbine, as used by the Canadian North West Mounted Police (the mounties), but died before he could claim it. Rafe Covington (Tom Selleck) purchases it and uses it to dispatch a multitude of bad guys. It is used at the end of the movie by Anne Rodney (Virginia Madsen) to kill Bruce Barkow (Mark Harmon).

Remington-Keene Repeating Rifle

Beau Dorn (Brad Johnson) uses a bolt-action sniper rifle to shoot and kill J.T. Langston (Christian Kane). It's a Remington-Keene Deluxe Sporter Bolt Action Rifle in .40-60 Marlin. Remington manufactured the rifle from 1880 - 1885 with only around 5,000 rifles produced. Also according to the May 2002 issue of American Rifleman, the Remington-Keene used by Brad Johnson was overhauled by Ken Howell of R&D Gun Shop.

Dorn takes aim... but Joe Gill (Wilford Brimley) already has Dorn in his crosshairs. The first bullet from Gill's rifle hits the church bell.

The eyepiece of the scope is closed with a lid. The next moment, a pyrotechnic charge is triggered, simulating Gill's second bullet hitting the scope of Dorn's rifle.

Evans Repeating Rifle

The 28 shot Evans Repeating Rifle is used by Joe Gill (Wilford Brimley). When asked why he doesn't get rid of it he states "Well, it holds twenty-eight bullets...and I ain't a very good shot...I'm going to town." In the middle of the gunbattle, the rifle runs out of rounds, and Gill switches to a Winchester 1873 that is brought out to him by the owner of the general store (Ken Pogue). The version that Gill uses is the carbine with the twenty-two inch barrel.

Sharps Model 1874

In the beginning of the film, Rafe Covington (Tom Selleck) obtains a scoped Sharps 1874 from Captain Gorgan (Mark Achenson) who murdered Charles Rodney. Covington uses it to kill a buffalo, and Joe Gill (Wilford Brimley) uses it at the beginning of the final gunbattle to shoot Dorn. Gill isn't a very good shot with the Sharps either, and hits Dorn's rifle instead.

Sawed-off Rifle

A sawed-off rifle is used by one of Beau Dorn's henchmen. This gun seems to be a sawed-off Trapdoor Springfield Rifle but not for sure.

A Colt Model 1878 double barreled shotgun is used by Sheriff Walter Moncrief (Barry Corbin).
