I have another reason for not allowing them: they may lead to bad IDs. The US Army and the USMC adopted the M16A2 in the eighties, but how many movies or shows actually have real A2s? Cutting all "Lists of weapons by armed forces" pages
The recent (re-)creation of List of firearms used by Polish Armed Forces has triggered several discussions about place for such lists on IMFDB. I discussed this issue with User:Funkychinaman in the IMFDB staff discord, and I argued that all such pages should be cut from IMFDB. The main reasonings, developed between me and funkychinaman (who OK'd my proposal), are the follows:
- IMFDB is not a general firearm encyclopedia.
- IMFDB is bad at being a general firearm encyclopedia, and these lists are inherently less reliable than equivalent Wikipedia lists.
- The existence of these lists attracts nationalist editing.
