America's Army: Proving Grounds is the sequel to America's Army 3, released in 2013. It is set in the same fictional East European region as America's Army 3, with the background being that the player is an 11B Infantryman practicing combat maneuvers at Joint Training Center Griffin located in the region for future operations.
The game is multiplayer-only and more streamlined to emphasizes small unit tactical maneuvers, but still realistic overall. Like the first game, players always see themselves as the US Army, and see their opponents as the OPFOR faction. Originally, weapons in the OPFOR armory can only be picked up from dead enemies and are otherwise unavailable. On the March 13th, 2018 update, all OPFOR weapons are added to the equipment customization menu, essentially removing all weapon restrictions (though OPFOR weapons are still categorized separately from friendly weapons on the menu). While US Army weapons and optics are closely modeled after real equipment, OPFOR weapons and optics are stylized portrayals of real weapons and optics.
The following weapons appear in the video game America's Army: Proving Grounds
Handguns
Beretta M9A1
The Beretta M9A1 is a US Army weapon.
M17 MHS
The M17 MHS is added on the October 24th, 2018 update as a US Army weapon.
M45 MEU(SOC)
The "M1911A1" US Army weapon appears to be a M45 MEU(SOC) pistol.
"CZ-2"
The "CZ-2" is the standard OPFOR handgun. It can also be unlocked for use by the US Army by completing a game achievement.
Submachine Guns
Heckler & Koch MP7A1
The MP7 was apparently originally added to the customization menu in an accident, and was later removed from the menu in the March 13th, 2018 update, cited as a bug. The MP7 was officially added to the game on the October 24th, 2018 update as the VIP's main weapon.
Assault Rifles
M4A1
The M4A1 is a US Army weapon.
M16A4 MWS
The M16A4 MWS is a US Army rifle.
SCAR-H
The SCAR-H is added on the October 24th, 2018 update.
AK-104
The "AK-105" OPFOR weapon is actually an AK-104 with a custom stock.
AK-Alfa
The "CZ Alpha" added on the October 24th, 2018 update appears to be stylistically inspired by the AK-Alfa.
AKM
The "AK-107" OPFOR weapon is actually an AKM with custom synthetic parts.
Sniper Rifles
M14 EBR-RI
The M14 EBR-RI is a US Army weapon.
M24 SWS
The M24 SWS is a US Army weapon.
SVD
The SVD is an OPFOR weapon and appears with a custom stock.
SV-98
The SV-98 appears as an OPFOR weapon.
Shotguns
Remington 870 MCS
The US Army shotgun is the Remington 870 MCS. It has a shortened barrel and magazine tube, roughly at the length of the Remington 870 MCS Entry, though it still has small rails on the short bit of barrel it has like on the full-length MCS.
Benelli Supernova
The Benelli Supernova is the OPFOR equivalent of the Remington 870.
Machine Guns
M249
The M249 is the US Army machine gun, and appears with the railed handguard.
RPK-74M
The RPK-74M is the OPFOR machine gun and appears with a Beta C-like drum magazine.
Launchers
RPG-7
The RPG-7 (RPG-7V2) was added in the July 26th, 2018 update.
Grenades
M67 Hand Grenade
M83 Smoke Grenade
The M83 smoke grenade is the US Army smoke grenade. An alternate grenade option, the fictional "M106 Fast Obscurant Grenade" (FOG for short), is an airburst smoke grenade that quickly releases a cloud of smoke for cover. Model-wise, it appears to be the same M83 model but retextured.
